This is why I was upset when Qanon ppl were feeling vindicated after Epstein files. They thought they got it right because they were smart. No, they literally regurgitated what Epstein and others wanted them to. To the degree any of what they believed was true, it was planted by the people behind it in order to discredit the whole thing. That's a tough one, in this post-AI world it can be tough to distinguish fact from fiction and the propaganda mills are operating at a hitherto unseen efficiency. That being said, I try to keep an open mind and don't trust any one given source whether mainstream or not but try to fact check when I can and ideally I try to find what the original source is. This is becoming harder recently and that is sad.

How does this help Russia? They were relying on the steady flow of equipment from Iran for their war in Ukraine. In fact, I'd say that this fiasco helps China, like most of the GOP actions. Simply by cutting off oil, countries will move ever faster towards renewables, which is controlled by Chinese industry. This gives them more cash, plus they know more about what is going to happen if they attack Taiwan, especially as US stockpiles are reduced.

China isn't going to attack Taiwan. Taiwan is part of China. The only reason they would attack is if the US gets involved and is a last resort if all diplomatic channels have been severed.

What an oblivious comment. While technically Taiwan is "part" of China, we all know that's not the reality. Taiwan and China operate independently of each other, and mainland China is looking to seize control of the island. To do that, it will involve an invasion- which is something that the PRC has stated as a goal for many years now. There is plenty of OSINT available that shows that China has been making progress towards that goal with a likely invasion coming in 2-5 years.

What invasion? That only comes if DPP seeks too become a vassal of the US. China would prefer a peaceful transition, with Taiwan keeping it's autonomy, rather than have it become an military base for the US.

Id say Taiwan isn't technically part of China any more than America is part of the british empire. They have their own government system, have a sovereign military, practice independent diplomacy and have an independent economy. Whilst the government in Taipei has its roots in the nationalist Chinese government, no one from that government seriously believes in reunification

It's technically part of it because of how the international community of nations treats the situation. The US view is that they are One China, but we still sell weapons and aid to Taiwan while trying not to upset the PRC. It's more like an autonomous region, theoretically under the thumb but does everything on its own.

Ehh, I'd say in the US case its more they simply do not acknowledge Taiwan at all in any official capacity, as opposed to agreeing with the one china policy. Strategic ambiguity used to be a popular toolset in the US arsenal

Taiwan identifies as being Taiwanese, but it is culturally rooted in the mainland.
The One China policy seeks to establish that independence without interference from the US.
Taiwan will keep everything it currently has, it's govt, currency, passports etc without being a proxy. The status quo favors China.
60%+ want to maintain the status quo, 20%+ seek independence
