I really liked Graham off the bat. The guys been through hell and seems like he genuinely wants to make big changes.

Then all of that oppo research came out and I got a bit hesitant. Some of that stuff was certainly concerning.

But he just did an interview on Pod Save America where he addressed all of it, and honestly, I think he did a good job. A lot of it was due to being in an all male environment in war zones, being young, and shit-posting on the internet to cope.

And now this poll comes out. People are genuinely sick of old fucks who are going to be dead in 10 years running everything. Mills seems like she's been an okay governor (Maine folks can chime in) but she would be the oldest freshman senator EVER.

Pulling for Graham to win the primary, and then to beat that stupid fucking ghoul Collins.

Yup. That interview changed my mind on him. Question his intelligence in waiting so long to cover it up, but I believe him when he says he got it because he was a drunk marine in a foreign country who wanted a tuff skull & crossbones tattoo.

I mean, he's not out walking around with his shirt off all of the time. Most people wouldn't even know he had it.

And seeing the tattoo, I certainly wouldn't recognize it as a nazi symbol. A lot of people jump on this stuff with no context. I can't count the number of times I've had idiots try to tell me I'm a nazi because of my user name without ever considering 88 could be anything like, you know, a birth year?

I'm glad he's not conceding to the establishment hit job on him.

I read the article and I tried to read between the lines to figure out this tattoo.

It sounds like he got a totenkopf (deaths head/skull). That's possible. I could see a drunk Marine looking at a "bad ass skull" without knowing where it was from. I'd almost want to blame the tattoo shop for having that kinda flash instead. THEY should certainly know (and might have).

I'm not in Maine. Y'all vote with your hearts. But I can see a youthful mistake.

There's also the 'don't let fascists own things' angle. It's a fuckin skull. Skull tattoos are quite common.

There is that, but the totenkopf is VERY specific. It isn't as iffy as the Iron Cross, and doesn't have any roots besides Nazis.

When a platoon from Alabama's National Guard had it as their patch, lifted directly from the Afrika Corps, they knew what it fucking was. When this guy did it, I can believe it was an accident enough for someone I can't and ain't voting for.

Yeah, I can't support him personally. People can and do change; I have friends and loved ones who once fell down the alt-right rabbit hole, and are now staunchly against such things. But, cmon, he didn't think to remove the nazi tattoo before running? Now I have no idea if he's sincere or just doing what one does when they are caught with their pants down.

Everyone should be allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. If the tattoos and stuff are from a long time ago, surely someone can speak to what he's like and what his values are now...? If he's truly grown up, reflected on the mistakes of his youth and taken a stance against them, that should count as a positive.

That's awesome! There's a great need for younger politicians who want to actually make a difference for the people. Now, let's hope those convictions survive the meeting with big money in politics, should he get in.

Eh, they certainly do pull their punches from time to time.

But they came out right off the bat to discuss the reddit posts and the tattoo. He's a real dude. He admits a lot of it was a mistake but provides some important context as to why he did them. I think most millennial men can relate to a lot of it. I'll ad a link to the interview in the main post.

I agree with you pint 100% normally. But these are not normal times. We have already been burnt by electing people who pushed progressive policies, then turned into maga once elected. I don’t think it’s worth the risk. If he does flip. Then it’s our fault. He told us who he was. In normal times give people a chance. This is the end game. No time to take risks.

That is clearly a concern. More than ever, these days.. That's why we should hear from someone who knew/knows him well enough to clarify some of these things. Then again, who's to say their what their agenda/affiliations are? It's tricky, with how things are these days.
