We want 'good imgur' back. The place is going down the drain. We post following our grievance. will it work? We don't know and frankly I don't care, better let everyone know that this has become a shitshow and have some fun while we're at it than stay (and leave) in silence. And yes, if you don't have an alternative site to suggest we migrate to, STFU because you're not helping at all. There is an amazing opportunity behind the fall of imgur and the more noise we make, the sooner someone with the gumption to build a worthy successor site will appear.

There are a few options floating about. A number of fine imgurians have set up various discords which are a good place. Imgpile is an old imgur clone that exists though it has some clear lack of moderation as there seems to only be the thinnest of lines between SFW content and straight up porn. They've also got really limited features. Imgcat.io is trying to be the next imgur but it's in a waiting list stage to get in. There's the "big sites" but I know most are here to avoid them.

I mean... If it's been going on several days and an alternative not being nailed down and promoted is a vivid indication that there's a fucking problem with how things are being done. Plenty of people have brought options to the table and one person is working on one, but posts I see that focus on the alternatives are not getting the attention they should be.

Oh boy, do I have a news for you. /gallery/let-me-show-you-what-ive-been-working-on-jZT6KLs Its WIP but alternative is being worked on

I'm aware of that and have been keeping my eyes on it for when it launches.

Only this community could have created this much of a protest against the parent company of the platform they're posting on, and that's exactly why I love imgur and want it and it's community to keep existing

And this is bigger than just this community. We're giving a face to the backlash against AI, and the restriction of internet freedoms and privacy more generally. That really is an important thing. I think there are other signs that the backlash against tech companies is rising at the moment too, and this protest can be a powerful symbol of that

"You can protest all you want as long as there is no inconvenience to me personally."

And the downvotes are coming fast... medialab bots?

It's a depressingly common attitude.

I miss the days when it was just a place to host your amateur porn pics for reddit. :-/

good times indeed!

I just miss a few years ago, when it was a bigger and vibrant community with less bots/ai/etc.

I think everyone except business daddy does. Business daddy is too busy selling porn and Nazi iconography to let us have our fun.

Selling porn, while trying to censor anything a bit raunchy "bECauSE aDVerTISerS doN'T liKE nsFw cONtEnT".
Make it make sense.

They've suspended me for stuff that isn't even raunchy, like the huge tracts of land gif. Talking about a person's real estate portfolio is hardly raunchy.

I once got a suspension because I made a "naughty" comment on a post by an OP who displayed her "huge tracts of land". The post was still there, must still be.
The problem is not moderation, the problem is complete lack of situation awareeness when moderating, and automated moderation.
