First rule of machinery, be it IT or otherwise, don't let the magic smoke out of it. However, I'd it comes out, back up real quick.
RavenHellfire
You let the magic smoke out of the wires!
Atalkingbirdthatspillssuperherossecretidentities
have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Go buy a new one and then return this one a few days later

Every electric tool works with smoke. Once the smoke gets out of the tool, the tool stops working.
MrKnabber
Don't put so much pressure on it while grinding. It slows the motor while running on ful power and sets it on fire. Am I to obvious here?

Davedavedavedavedave
That's the important smoke that makes electronics work. As soon as it escapes, the item is dead.

Works with most things... Car is smoking - broken, train is smoking - broken, your hoe is smoking - broken
benburckhardt
Yep. The OEM installs the smoke. Once it’s out you can’t put it back.
DomerPyle
I dunno what's up with everyone else but I've got a handful of power tools from them that have taken abuse and still work great
Anonawesome
Some do, some don't. Personally, I've learned to buy power tools from good brands like Makita, and leave the hand tools to HF
Their hand tools are great. Definitely misused more than a few and they're still in my toolbox waiting to jump into action. Solid stuff

They just get in the way
Yeah they all say that. Until they have a close call, or lose a finger. Good luck!
What will get in the way of the disk wen If it breaks bro? I tought like that untill one day, lucky me had a face Shield
I never put myself in line with a spinning disc, blade, airplane propeller, even with a guard

How do you hold it?
Doubtful. You probably don't even realize you're doing it.

Harbor Freight tools are always a gamble. It might be descent at a great price or it’s a massive pile of shit
kutison
Great for the average job, shit for professionals. It's like Bed, Bath and Beyond for greasy people.
jrblast
Often these tools work fine if you use them for short amounts of time. They just don't have strong enough cooling.
There are other areas where they cheap out, but that's one of the bigger issues.
onemptyhorizon
Pretty sure that's an old Makita not a HF special with a 20% off coupon
NeedNotApply
It either an old ass Makita or a week old HF grinder.
My first thought was Makita too, coz of the color.
Ferrumkit
Same thought, thats Makita green for sure but still could be a knock-off.
Don't think a makita would do that unless you fucked up the power supply. Pretty sure the w/b is just weird
The701
I lightly smoked a Makita 18V Li-ion drill. They apparently don't like max-torque with a big hole saw for very long. Only a little bit of
smoke from the back, and the damn thing still works.
W/B meaning, white balance. So the colors look incorrect.
JeffSmurthers
Now, I could be wrong, but there seems to be something wrong with your grinder. I suggest using the Grindr app, it's where like minded
JustaDick
Honestly this is the least harmful way something can go wrong with a grinder missing its guard.

both are correct though... duct tape is the type of tape, while duck tape is a certain brand of duct tape
I prefer the tape made out of duck's.
Moreover, the tape you use for ducting isn't duck tape. It's a metallic foil tape.
also true yeah, although, i've seen duct tape used on ducts a bit too often (i worked in construction for several years)
Yeah leaves that nasty residue and just fucks the next guy. That is, if it doesn't dry out and leak air first.

elhopaness
Maybe noticed some wrong smell and decided to just see how it ended. Anyway you don't need to tape the switch some grinders have >
> that feature, I bought one with that. Weirdly enough if I saw that in the store it would had thrown me away from buying it.
That switch locks on by itself. It's supposed to. Besides, the tape isn't even in the area of the switch.
ArthurPhillipDent
Yeah the tape is over the exhaust. Probably helping it overheat
The tape is *slightly* over the exhaust. I doubt it had anything to do with the failure.
OrbitalSloth
There’s some module on the circuit board that makes it do this. I’ve heard AVE reference it a couple times in the tool tear downs he does.
Like this is a common thing in cheap ass tools. Manufacturer neglected to prevent this in order to save cents.
The hell are you talking about? There's "some module" that makes it catch on fire? Don't shame AvE like that. The switch lock is mechanical.
Fuck I remember it’s in the trigger. When the trigger is more than just a potentiometer, ie has its own board. It does this.
Dunothar
It really didn't surprize me that at least one AvE viewer is here. That ginder at least had a metal main bearing/gearbox cap...
I've owned quite a few Hazard Fraught tools. The safety issues come in manufacturing. Pinched wires here, poor insulation there, they don't
care at all when they're assembling.
