What else is there to do when you're camping? COOK!!!
Packed up my "low-budget outdoor kitchen" (http://imgur.com/gallery/2qH3a) and headed to Kissimmee Prarie State Park. Coleman 443 running on white gas. Got it from a friend that passed about a year ago. Petromax 500CP pressure lantern running on paraffin. It's almost too bright.
Pay no attention to the laptop off to the right. Had to get my hockey fix.
Tank of fuel lasts about 6 hours of cook time. About an hour between pumps. Lodge 12 on the right. Griswold 12 on the left.

I am insanely jealous you are camping right now. Where I live it's not warm enough to comfortably camp until at least May. I miss it!!

In a couple months it'll be too hot and buggy to camp here.

Paraffin pressure lamps are wonderful. We've got almost a dozen of them - a must for camping.

My friend set the top on fire because he tried to turn it off with the valve instead of releasing the fount pressure. Nickel finish blued.

I've always turned them off with the valve - Tilleys, Bialaddins, Optimuses etc. I don't bother blowing them until they need refilling.

I'm looking for an Aladdin mantle lamp in good shape. I get kinda tired of the loud hiss and want something silent.

Ah - one of the reasons we use them is for the cheerful hiss! You can quiet them down by dropping the pressure a bit.

My favorite part is lighting it with the built-in blowtorch. I just got an old Coleman 152 w/ paraffin generator. Just for home use, though.

I'd like to get a stove, but not a Russian Roarer. Any experience with a wick stove?
