Onahole is actually a double portmanteau.
Ona-ru is a Japanese slang term for masturbation (incomprehensibly adapted from Onan in the book of Genesis), so an onahole is a masturbation sleeve. But onna is the Japanese designator for woman, so it's ALSO a "woman hole", which is functionally the exact same thing.
It's rare to have a portmanteau with two distinct etymologies which both work. I think it's pretty neat.

That's also where the English word onanism comes from, with the same meaning. Other languages also seem to have it, like German where its "onanieren". The Oxford nerds claim the first known use for self-gratification is from 1718, so it's pretty old.

Oh yes, but those European cultures were FAR more entrenched in Christian culture. I'm aware the Portuguese brought Catholicism to Japan in the 16th century, but it didn't really take.
Japanese has a lot of loan words like that, such as 'arubaito', which fall into the category of "you're not wrong, but why?" - where it just feels jarring that they took THAT in lieu of literally anything else.
