One of the major hospitals sent wife home before recovery, AND while her condition was actively worsening but she's back in and being cared for for the next few days & then likely to a recovery/hospice homeless shelter we uncovered

been there. Parents home was foreclosed on, and the eviction notice served the day my 65 yr old mom was released from the hospital after a double hip replacement. It was rough for a while, but 3 years later I can finally say things are better

Happened to my old boss. She ended up in the hospital alone, with sepsis. Almost died. Didn't have family to check on her. Missed a month's rent and they threw everything she owned out on the streets. She sold her car(that was the only thing she had at the hospital) and moved like 8 states away to be with the one family member that she's close with. We send her care packages now. Broke my heart when she asked for a Walmart GC so she could buy clothes.

Salt Lake City has additional resources as well as a specialized team at the Mayprs Office too that until recently 211 & the Director locally at Volunteers of America wasn't aware would speak with random on the street like us

Consider putting a kofi, or something like that up here for assistance. To hell if people don't like it, any port in a storm. Maybe someone who knows how could tag the pizzaangel person? Not much but maybe we could at least take care of a meal or two collectively.

The pizza guy helped enormously Sat. Wh3n the hospital sent my wife home WAY too early, which started this crisis, he kept us able to manage things as long as we did over the weekend

Focus on finding a local free shower. When I was on the streets, I often shower twice a week. Well mainly because it was only available twice a week :( . At the homeless shelter, I will go in once every week to do a load of laundry for free. Just a few tips i could pass along

I know, I waited in line for help for hours, just to be told that there's nothing. The only housing help in my area says they're not taking people for the waiting list, and it's been over 2 years since they helped someone get a place.

One of the biggest issues, no5 just worh that, bit ALL aspects is they took often help one & done, no or too little follow up
The kind of reverse is my current obstacle, no action until they can show they won't need to follow up.

Avoid the low barrier shelters - users are gonna use and almost always become problematic. Shelters come with rules: no drugs n alcohol. Curfews and sober on sight. Since youre early stage, lighten your load but do priorities your belongings: lose what you can lose, pawn what you can for survival cash and find a place to stash your property temporarily while you stabilize your securities - do note that the longer it stays there, the more likely it will be taken. Dont romanticize homelessness.
