trains are the most energy efficient form of land travel. I don't know how cargo ships compare to freight trains for energy efficiency.
I suppose water is very slippery, but you also have to push a fuck load of water out of the way of the boat, so trains are probably best.

You just have to do more of it. Not a problem...
it is a problem if you're trying to burn calories. Time is valuable, so you'd want to burn as many calories in as little time as possible.
of course biking burns more calories than driving a car, but it can also cost more time. So your choices would be drive to work and do a
high intensity workout when you get home, or bike to work for a small amount of calories burned.
