lthat reaI work in marketing, which is *not* a super stable field. And I've had some pretty good jobs, but all of them have had some pretty ugly workplace cultures.
On top of that, three times I've been part of layoffs; literally called into HR in the morning, with no warning, and been let go on the spot, with no severance, just the check for hours worked.
After the last layoff, I thought I'd landed the perfect gig. Slower paced company, good pay, had really great conversations with the hiring managers, seemed like a great fit.
But it's not even 2 months in and my manager seems to find every opportunity to belittle and question my work. I'm a lead in my department with 10 years experience working for huge brand names and she questions every problem I flag with our product, she's giving me really conflicting directives, and always gives me vague directions so I don't even know what questions to ask when she says "let me know if you have any questions". But however I interpret her, it seems I'm wrong.
I've done a ton of personal work over the last 3 years; seen multiple therapists, tried out multiple meds (two of which are working, thank Odin!), taken up meditation, quit drinking completely, started reading self-help books, and yet for all of that, it's so hard to focus during the day because I never know what she's going to find fault with and after every interaction with her, it sometimes takes me 2-3 hours to stop spiraling. And my wife suggests that I push back or ask more questions, but she's in a union; my field (like so many) isn't unionized, so I literally have no power here. And I'm still processing the trauma of my latest round of layoffs, which just happened in February of this year.
I'll wrap this up: Imgur, thanks for being weird. I've actually learned a lot about my (recently diagnosed) ADHD on here, found a community that really understands my depression and anxiety, and shows me people who laugh and help one another through all sorts of struggles. I'm venting but also want to say thanks to whoever reads this; IMGUR is a pretty cool place.

Red = good, blue = bad. Send out applications to other jobs now, don't tell your boss or the company until you have an acceptance from a new place. Remember, two weeks' notice is a courtesy, not a requirement unless it's part of the employment contract you signed.

I appreciate the feedback and I guess I will do some looking around but I’m kind of senior in my field so these jobs can be hard to find.

Run awaaaaaaaay! ... from that job. If you can. It's not fine. Don't let a toxic boss burn you out.

How do like 98% of these posts get the colors wrong
TheRealLouzander
Thanks for focusing on the important stuff here. /s

It's not that hard to understand why. Red usually means bad, stop, warning, etc. Why do you expect everyone to automatically understand your arbitrary meme rules?
TheRealLouzander
Exactly. In what other contexts is red good? I consciously chose this format because blue is clearly the calming, more appealing color. Also, it's funny that I thank the imgur community for being cool and 50% of the first comments are critiquing my color choices. Sorry meme lords. :/

Document everything.

I appreciate the feedback, but to what end? I'm an at will employee, and my manager has known most of the other people at this company for years. If they decide to fire me, what possible recourse could I have? Genuinely asking, BTW; I appreciate your comment.

because even if you are at will, there are still some laws that protect you from harassment and discrimination.

Any questions you have; put it in an email. That way when the goalposts are moved you can show it to HR or your bosses boss should it come to that. Request instructions in writing so you have "action items". I know gaslighting well. Not all of it's intentional. Documentation helps both parties if it's not. Hope this helps.
