O/C! Making screws by hand on a lathe.

This was the post that inspired me to show how screws are made in my world.

First we need a metal rod. Depends on what we're replicating. This was a screw for a Franck Muller watch.

Aaand unfortunately there are no more images of this screw in particular, but the next steps would include flattening the head, creating a slot, and polishing.

This is another order. Someone asked me to make 6 short screws and 3 long screws.

We'll start with the long first. It's more time consuming.

I'll cut threads first. If I make the screw longer before this process is done, it will be much more difficult.

Not to mention it would suck if I cut the whole screw out and the thread broke off while it was being cut as the last step. YES THIS HAPPENED.

Now I can continue shaping the screw bit by bit.

until It's finally almost there.

Did one side first

Then the second side. It looks like I should have enough gold for a third screw.

That was just barely enough!

So now we have a screw that has a flat head.

It should be more like this.

I put the screw in a pin vise that I put in a vise and I will make the slot with a blade inserted in another vise. Inception?

So first we mark the center.

And then cut in deeper.

All slots are cut. Now to size the heads of the screws and do some finishing touches.

All nice and shiny!

Now to make the 6 short screws. This is so much easier than the long screws!
