TLDR: boss is a bitch that makes everyone miserable and op is a bitch for not caring she's in the hospital
No word on what is actually wrong with her just that she went to the hospital last night
My boss is an absolute bitch. She blames everyone else if even the smallest thing goes wrong. She will routinely throw her assistant under the bus. If she hears anything even slightly negative about anyone else she will twist it in her own mind until that person is the worst employee ever (even if what she heard had nothing to do with work) She takes 4-5 30-40 minute breaks a day (sometimes more) then comes in and complains that no one works as hard as her. If things are not wxactly the way she wants she goes into rants and spreads her bad mood around then complains that everyone is in a bad mood. We all look forward to her days off. I really hope she's out for a long time

Shit if she were that shitty to me, I'd be wishing she were dead. You're a better person than I, OP.

Is your boss the President of the United States? She is a bitch!
NightOwlRally
You are 100% entitled to feel this way towards a human that can do nothing but spread negativity and abuse, and don't pay attention to anyone who says otherwise.
"Forgive and forget" is nothing but bullshit, gaslighting victims into allowing their abusers to continue their behavior without facing consequences.

My wife had a bitch boss. She finally quit willingly and everyone sighed of relief.
Then 3 years later the boss called the ceo about an opening and he said ‘you aren’t coming back’. He then asked my wife ‘so she called me, what would happen if I hired her back?’ My wife said ‘I would quit even if I didn’t report to her, and these other 8 people would quit’. He just nodded and said ‘ok that’s what I thought’

There's a plug behind the weird sounding machine near her bed in case you need to charge your phone

If my boss ended up in the hospital, I'd visit with flowers and a smuggled six pack. Guy is a stand-up dude, has covered my ass for my mistakes and has been a constant shield between the C-suite's bullshit and me for years.
He's literally why I came back to an otherwise not so great job, because I'd rather have a mediocre job with a boss I liked than a good job with a terrible boss.
NinjablazerZero
I have a boss that likes to reach for heavy boxes that are on high up shelves without a step ladder. She can barely lift most things, and refuses to ask for help. She is such a toxic and micromanaging bitch, I pretend not to notice in the hopes that she drops something and ends up not being able to work anymore.
cousteau
Having a job is the best time for looking for a job, and that place (well, person) sounds toxic af. Get your CV and LinkedIn profile up to date and see if you find something interesting.

I'm sick enough I might end up in the hospital tonight if things don't get better. Started vomiting blood

This sounds eerily familiar... are you my coworker and is there a situation I don't know about at work?

Poisoning someone is a serious crime, OP.

If you feel guilty about the not caringthat she's in the hospital, care about the hospital staff that have to take care of her.
EmeraldLight
The day after one of our supervisors went on leave the entire vibe in our building shifted and we've had a lot less turn over. I hope she never comes back.
Mansooratyale
Wait, I know her; she is my previous boss. Mine gave me High blood pressure before I managed to leave :(
Powderhunter75
People quit bosses, not companies. Not always the case, but I find that’s often how it goes.
imakesoap
I had a toxic boss. She was so evil, she even made an 18 wheel truck driver cry when he tried to make a delivery. She got breast cancer and decided that I’d be giving her rides home, never asked, just told me I needed to do it. I didn’t go to her funeral even though I was expected to. Cancer is awful, but if it had to happen, it couldn’t heave chosen a more deserving individual
cousteau
Well I can think of a few, but she does sound like top ten material.
Astramancer
I had a toxic boss. At the time the company did a massive survey every 2 years regarding employee satisfaction. This boss didn't fit into the standard company org chart so the survey didn't actually ask about that boss, just the one above and below them. Of the 38 people under them, 36 completely independently wrote in the freeform section that they were a terrible boss (if organized I would have been invited). They were no longer our boss before the survey results presentation.
Ventorath
Our surveys are scheduled in groups of 5 at certain times and have you log in to the survey but they insist it's "anonymous" :)
Astramancer
In theory the surveys were handled by a 3rd party company and anonymized. You had to put in your e-mail address so it definitely was traceable if needed and the survey company tattled on who hadn't filled out the survey yet. Nobody believe it was anonymized but that boss was so bad that nobody cared.
johnblood616
My racist/sexist/homophobic/misogynistic bootlicker of a boss always says he is gonna blow his brains out fuck I wish he wud
MajMalfunction2
Maybe the reason she's toxic is that she's been in pain for years and now that she can get the help she needs, she might come back better.
She also might just be evil, but time will tell.
MeowMachine12
Even if its true she's in pain and that's why she's a toxic bitch, its not an excuse to be a toxic bitch.
prosper020
This. It’s an explanation, of why it might be happening, but that’s all it is. It’s no excuse to be mean or shitty. I’ve met plenty of people with chronic pain who choose to be nice because they don’t want to bring anymore pain into the world.
jesseCandyBaroness
I love your optimism! I try to do this too, especially with my road rage (really, the only time I get angry). I tell myself that maybe their wife is in labor, or they just got the news of a loved one’s death, or they just found out that the cancer is terminal, anything I can come up with as a back story as to why someone is being awful.
But this one is a hard one to hope away. Even with chronic pain there are good days and bad days, this boss lady doesn’t seem to have good days ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
MaybeIllDisappear
I had a boss who would harass and insult me during our one-on-ones. I would leave my meetings with him in tears. No one else believed me, because they all saw him as this perfect English gentleman. One day he collapsed and died from a heart attack. I like to imagine I willed it to happen.
Arbitrarynamehere
Yeah I personally don't put up with that kind of behavior (at the risk of my job, which I ended up losing). Ended up being a great move for me but I didn't *need* that job anyway and had the security to stand up for myself. Wish everyone could.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I was going to quit the job where I was treated like that, but then my husband got laid off. :( We had two small kids and I felt we couldn't both be out of work, too risky. So I had to suck it up.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I had a boss that did that but then he'd also try to make me look stupid in front of other people. I guess it was nice that everyone else *knew* he was an asshole, but then again I had to sit there and be berated in front of a bunch of people who I had to be able to lead. So, mixed bag. He eventually got drummed out for being an asshole. He did have a kid born with a birth defect in the time that I worked for him, but that's just sad, I couldn't ever see it as karma.
sofako41404
Took me a minute to realize he wasn't the one in tears as you left the meetings.

Best thing about confessions like these is that if it ever came out and word got back to your boss, she'd have no idea who confessed this because literally everyone at work feels this way

This is whats known as "narcissism" a condition by which the person suffering from it makes everyone else suffer their ideas, decisions, and most of all feelings. Symptoms may include (but not limited to) absolute authority in any job or group they're apart of. If they are not placed in charge, they will make anyone who is completely miserable until they give in to their demands
The most acute symptom is the belief that they are correct in all ways. Any decision, action, or statement is absolute
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I currently work with someone who acts this way. Might not be full-on narcissism since there have been times where he's actually agreed with changes I wanted him to make. If he doesn't agree, though, it's finger-pointing and blame that he had it perfect and now I'm changing the requirements. Not sure what's going on there. Maybe just low self-esteem and extreme insecurity.
GreenMnM
Its also possible that extreme narcissistic tendencies also takes those ideas and somehow, in someway, will make them his and drive anyone else out completely. Its seen quite a lot in politics, business, and girl scouts
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
It's possible, but he does have a "circle of trust" that he actually listens to and discusses things with. I don't know if narcissists have that. I think I might be starting to enter it, because he doesn't just dismiss me out of hand anymore, he'll actually listen. But then if he doesn't like it he lashes out. If he likes it, he accepts it's a good change and does it.
GreenMnM
Oh ABSOLUTELY! Narcissists employee people they trust for any lesser ideas or actions they feel they're too good for.
Point in case, chump choosing kegsbreath to lead "the dept of war" lol what an ass.
There are smart narcissists and dumb ones just like there are smart and not so smart people. Just bc someone is in complete agreement with themselves that they're the smartest person in the room, doesn't mean they dont acknowledge when they need others to complete tasks. Those that are "trusted" ¹
GreenMnM
² usually (I use that term loosely) tend to have something in common with the subject or have talents that exceed the subjects knowledge or ability. They will never admit they need said person and if there is any accolades to be had, they'd rarely, if ever, share them.
You can easily see examples of this on the news whenever there are "important" political animals on. Like pres cheeto pedo scumbag, or VP couchfucker. They exhibit this in spades.
TNSCLuotaMEa4fVN
And then, there is Rump, who is a Malignant Narcissist. The symptoms are the same as his biography should be written. Always has to be right, tries to penalize anyone who disagrees with him, has to be the best, the smartest, etc. Look it up.
GreenMnM
Absolutely accurate. Unless it is 1000% absolutely without fault, did only the absolute best (in his mind with a passing nod to popular opinion of sycophants) then he will deem it "someone else's fault and responsibility. There is NO ROOM at all for argument. If its a failed policy that has his signature written all over it, it wouldnt matter. He'd find a way to blame someone else and absolutely believe that it was not his fault. Extreme narcissism with high demanding ego is a bitch on everyone
TNSCLuotaMEa4fVN
Everything is Biden's fault. It is necessary to have sycophants, to tell you how wonderful you are.
GreenMnM
Pretty much. Biden is even at fault for issuing orders while chump was PretenderOTUS. Funny how that math maths
TNSCLuotaMEa4fVN
His followers are triggered by the name Biden, and don't pay attention to what follows.

Had a toxic boss. Day after she retired the work place had an entirely different feel. It was like a magic wand had been waved.

You can tell how people feel by if the cake is brought in on their last day, or the 1st day they are gone!

People who want power do not deserve power. I have worked in multiple supervisory roles now and I am always trying to make every single one of my employees feel as safe as possible. Not coddling when times are rough, but realistic and friendly. And I will die standing fighting for my workers. There’s no debate that workers are more productive than the managerial crew. And that needs to be understood by supervisors. I gladly head into fights with my managers to protect my workers.
Blud4BludGod
My shitty boss has been on vacation for three weeks. First time in a long time I've been able to actually enjoy work in the slightest way. They get back tomorrow, unfortunately.
SackTheRipper
My toxic General Manager got promoted to District Manager. I've been offered the GM position twice and turned it down because I refuse to work directly with this person.
SamAndJanetEvening
Same here. After that fucker left we threw a big "Gone Away" party to celebrate.
Sdogofdoom
Had a toxic boss, moved to a different department to a toxic-lite boss, everything felt a million times better. Toxic-lite boss got fired for flipping off a coworker (twice, she was warned), and now we have an actually good boss and its.. heavenly. Still work and all but im no longer concerned that im going to get told off for missing some small task that would have required me to stay late. If something doesn't get done, its because I didn't have the time, and not because im slacking.
dreammer243
My boss and I flip off each other occasionally but only in good spirits
silvimancer
Hell yeah. And you're not a bitch for not caring that she's in the hospital. Empathy isn't required for people that make your life terrible. It's past time that society stop insisting on that.
ChiliBeef
I have to remind myself about that a lot, telling myself, "Whoa, no need to feel bad about hating that person, they were a real piece of shit to you."
sofako41404
The only people who insist you should show empathy on clear-cut assholes are the same people who will insist you shouldn't show empathy for those who actually deserve it. See the reactions to the murder of a semi-famous gun violence advocate recently as an example.
BarryTheCyborg
They just need to move on already
selfishsarah
I disagree. I personally found it to easier to swallow to understand that mental illness is everywhere. Maybe she's a bitch because she's ultra depressed and doesn't have meds. Or maybe she's in physical pain and roars at everyone because of that. Maybe the 'bitch' has a valid reason and needs support to become kind again.
I could be wrong, some people are evil for the sake of it, but I choose to look for the good like Mr Rogers taught me
dreammer243
You can empathize with someone and still want something to happen to get you free of them.
Writingpastwit
We can have empathy for people with illness, whatever it may be, but also hold them accountable and draw the line of what we are willing to tolerate. If a person's illness causes them enough pain or rage to harm others then they need to start taking steps toward accommodating that illness, even if it takes a while to find the answer. Abusing others is not it.
