Younger imgurians won't remember, but food trucks used to be awesome. You'd quickly get a large quantity of decent enough food for cheap.
Now? Food trucks mostly fucking suck. Too many are run by people who take out a large loan for a business they want to run as a hobby for a couple days a month. So they have to amortize that loan into their prices and you end up with high prices. And this sets a floor for other food trucks to jack their prices up too. Further, because they're usually run and

Don't get me wrong, there's still some good ones out there, but the pricing is just too high across the industry nowadays.

Don't get me started. Obscenely overpriced (by about 100%), takes forfuckingever, and the noise and stink from all those fucking generators makes for an extremely unpleasant experience. If I want to go because my friends will be there, I just pick up a rotisserie chicken and a six pack on the way--saves me about $50.

I'm 40 and I've never known a real, honest, good food truck. They've all been exactly as you describe. Small portions, way overpriced, okay quality, and slow af. The best food truck I've ever had was actually a local ice cream shop. Streamlined to just "pick a scoop, you get it in a cup, $X". Fast and delicious. And not overly expensive, either.

I loathe the current ones. I saw one at a recent event that had hot dogs for $8-12 and charged for all condiments ($0.50-2/each). A single hot dog on a white bread bun was $8! Mustard and relish brought it up to $9.
I didn't order anything from them.

Yeah, unfortunately that's all too common. There was this "Gourmet Grilled Cheese" place that sounded good that I tried once. Took literally 30 minutes to get my food, cost like $12, and ended up being a half sandwich on plain white bread.
Not to toot my own horn, but I can make some killer grilled cheese that was way better for about .50¢ per sandwich, half of that cost being cheese.

Where do you guys live? I live in LA and 2 fish tacos with a drink is about $8. And I've never been to a restaurant here that serves lukewarm drinks. Even the street taco stands have an icebox.
