I got worried she died for a second.

That would've been a very different show.

Wet. Hot. American. Summer.

If you haven’t seen it, stop what you’re doing and watch it now.

She had a funny part in Seinfeld.

Hey, what’s the deal with decaf? How do they get the caffeine out of there and then where does it go?

Dude, I’ve got a lot of tables.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I had a crush on her in high school. Loved her in Mystery Men

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

She’s too amazingly snarky for those roles.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She would bestow upon me all her wisdom of the Dewey Decimal System

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

She was great in the final season of The West Wing.

2 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 1

I don’t remember her in the 4th and last season. I will die on this hill that there were only 4 seasons.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I loved the 5th season

Typical Cox blocking for ya

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I bet she totally said similar words at some point.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Shes an example of a female standing by her principals. Thus, getting black listed and not having as a spectacular actress career if she had played along.

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

pretty much. Fiona Apple too. but they are both incredible

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Her too, and theres more im sure. Its still going to take generations to get back on track

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

That woman is an icon. Way more so than Cox.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 7

She’s as much of an icon as Star-Lord.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

...I have no idea who that woman is.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

I mean, the 90s nerdy kid in me is way more attached to janeane, but this is clearly just not true

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

She'd not been a good Monica. With her dry wit delvery, she's like a female Chandler. She's very funny, but does Snarky better than Dorky.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

She was very funny in Wet Hot American Summer.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I believe she also went on a Expedition to Mt. Everest with Arin Hanson and not Dan Avidan

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

RUN THE INTRO AGAIN

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I hear Dan Avidan is a stickler for pronunciation.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I've heard with no source that kevin smith wished he gave her the lead in Dogma since florentino was so difficult to work with.

2 years ago | Likes 47 Dislikes 4

I read that as well.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

(tl;dr: misrepresented and/or exaggerated)

2 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

One of the few movies I ever watched the directors commentary for is Dogma, and I think K Smith mentioned it in there. So what you said is correct.

2 years ago | Likes 28 Dislikes 1

He's since clarified that statement and you can read it on her Wikipedia page. "I remember on a commentary track on the DVD — Janeane Garofalo was in the movie and at one point I said it would have been better if she played the lead, which was a really shitty and stupid thing to say" - Kevin Smith

2 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 1

Mystery men and maybe I've seen her in stand up comedy? I can't think of anything else but I also didn't even remember Courtney cox was in scream

Wet Hot American Summer!

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Netflix revised it as a mini-series in 2017: "Wet Hot American Summer: 10 Years Later."

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She’s in all 6 films as Gale Weathers…so..wow.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I only remember because there's a meme showing off her absolutely terrible bangs that gets posted here occasionally

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

She played one of Jerry's girlfriends on Seinfeld!

God damnit RUN THE INTRO AGAIN

Starring Arin Hanson

Also starring Daniel Avidan who is a stickler for pronunciation.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I can’t help but think that Friends would’ve been watchable if she had been in it. As it stands, I can’t even sit through five minutes of it. Just can’t.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 7

To each their own, but I feel a big part of older shows not being as watchable today is the binge culture steaming services have been cooking up in the last decade. While nostalgia plays a part we use to have nearly a weeks worth of life in between episodes, a good show only had to be entertaining in the moment. There is also a greater demand serial shows vs episodic ones that once ruled TV so the formula gets stale quickly with continuous viewings. Though not the rule of thumb for every 1/2

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

show, take Home Improvement vs Seinfeld. you can boil both these shows down to their basic elements, Tim does something dumb, asks for advice, blunders his way through advice, all is forgiven. Jerry or someone gets hooked on a random thing, other events happen, Jerry is smug by the end. Both shows went on for a decade but I'd wager more people can quote Seinfeld than could remember any of the advice Wilson gave to Tim.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You don't deserve to be down voted. It's not a good show, and it definitely didn't age well.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yeah I hated Friends. Also Big Bang Theory. But to each their own.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She was great in The Matchmaker. What a cute movie.

2 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Came here to say exactly this. Love love love that movie.

2 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

They are only thespians if they come from the greek island of Thesbos, otherwise they're just sparkling actors.

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I prefer Homo Sapiens.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I really can't see her as a character on that show, not at all, she would have been miserable in that role I'll wager... as she's more of a character actor for film and the stage, and not much for *network* television in my opinion... HBO/Showtime, Netflix or other streaming television sure, but not the networks...

2 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Yeah, she was on the Larry Sanders Show on HBO and she was great.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yeah not everyone wants to be stuck in one role for eternity. These kind of posts always assume all actors care about nothing but money.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Well seeing as most actors are in it for the love of the craft and not the money, I'd have to I'd agree, sure once you made it the money's great, but most actors are fuelled by creating for a living, like most artists do.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Although being in a movie that grossed $100 million DOES lead to better roles, in bigger-budgeted films coming your way.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"Although being in a movie that grossed $100 million DOES *lead to better roles*" ⇐ Indeed, hence better roles means better opportunities to create; money is simply a tool to be used, it should never be the end goal, for that, we get "actors" like sorbo! x^D

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think you’re making assumptions yourself.

I didn’t mention money.

The thing that makes it an interesting bit of trivia to me is that both in-the-zeitgeist, career-making roles (one in TV & one in film) eventually went to the same person!

But speaking of money, Janeane should definitely be on Courteney’s Christmas card list.

Mystery Men. For the uninitiated.

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Circa '99 when it originated

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Her best role. Well, this and "Reality Bites".

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I watched 'The Truth about Cats and Dogs' because she was in it. Same with 'Now and Then' she was the alt girl of my teenage dreams which ages me very much.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She and Winona Ryder definitely had my attention, back in the early '90s.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Help us understand why we should choose you, over all the other qualified applicants

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Legit the only character role that comes to mind. Everytime. Same with stiller, and that dude who got fired for voice acting apu...... no one asked for that! It's always as if that's what voice actors do, pretend to be some else.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 9

You mean Tugg Speedman?

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And Walter Mitty?

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wrong, it's Derek Zoolander.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Hank Azaria? He didn't get fired, he just stopped voicing Apu. He still voices half the characters in that show.

2 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 0

"White guy voicing racist Indian trope" is one I'm ok with him stepping down from.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Mystery Men was so underrated. If it had been re-released like ten years ago during the height of the superhero movie trend, it'd have done so well.

2 years ago | Likes 55 Dislikes 0

It's a comedy classic, leave it bet!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

"I shovel. I shovel really well."

2 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Idk. We'd have had a completely different cast then and I think it'd lost a lot of its charm and have cheap effects

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Fair, but the argument really is to say if nothing else were changed.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, I'm way too cynical to think remaking it would be a good idea, but putting in back in theaters for a cheap ticket would have been great. The tropes aged incredibly well.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

That they should've done.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hell, they were playing a bunch of old movies during covid, never saw mystery men. Lots of matrix, for some reason.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My friend picked the VHS out of a prize box along with the concert tickets he won from the radio. Kept it in his car and whenever we hung out somewhere, it ended up being watched again. Probably watched it like 25 times in a year.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

She was also black-listed by the networks for her stance on the Iraq war. Which, of course, she was completely right about.

2 years ago | Likes 1001 Dislikes 12

These roles were available before that… so what’s your point? I love her. Think she’s funny and everything she’s in is great, but wtf dies it matter if she was hard to work with before the war and also after?

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 78

The black listing was a separate note in the trajectory of her career, and the reason she didn’t get these roles wasn’t cause she’s difficult to work with

2 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 2

Tldr woosh.

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 37

We owe them an apology

2 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

I was wondering where she went

2 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

So uh....cancelled by the right wingers?? Ah true cancel culture. It's the same with an abusive narcissistic partner. If you disagree YOU are abusive to it. If you call it abusive YOU are being unreasonable. Now same with Israel's genocide.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Huh, I assumed she was another Weinstein's "Difficult" women. Admittedly I've not thought all that much about her in years.

There's little satisfaction to be had regarding being right about terrible things. You'd rather you were wrong. Humans are painfully predictable.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not that predictable. I would have bet money that Hollywood was anti-war!

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Hollywood is full of people who are the product. As that, they get to shape their "brand". That's why I don't keep up with celebrities. It's all a facade and not worth following.
