I just worked with someone positive for covid and I don't think my mask sealed right.

I work medical and one of our residents has covid. We're required to wear a gown, eye protection, n95 respirator, and gloves.
I just started last week and before I was able to start, I needed to get fitted for a respirator.
I trimmed my beard to a goatee and passed.
They told me I would need to do that again if I worked with a resident with coronavirus.
I came in with my usual beard, they told me to see the guy with covid, donned all of the gay apparel, worked with him, removed my gown and gloves, grabbed hand sanitizer, and paused because I could smell it through my respirator.
You're not supposed to smell through a respirator!

So, despite all of my precautions, I was exposed because I was led to believe I'd have advanced notice I'd be working with someone with coronavirus.
Of course, you can get it without knowingly being exposed, you can be exposed without getting it, and you can have it with few if any symptoms, but I can't use sick days for 75 days.
My wife's out of sick days.
We live with my mother (yay) who is 78 and has a compromised immune system.

When we left, my coworker started coughing.
I'm positive it takes more than one minute to show symptoms.

If it’s recent exposure, talk to a doctor and get a rx for paxlovid. Tell them that you don’t have sick days and think that you were exposed.

Fuck that... friend of mine died from Covid, his wife is boarding with us now because she couldn't afford to keep their home. He refused the vaccine but she didn't. Just be aware of the symptoms and take a test kit home, or pick one up from your local pharmacy or drug store. Make sure mom is vaccinated.

If only there was some sort of vaccine that everyone, especially that resident, could have gotten to prevent this sort of thing....
At my old job, which I had during the lockdown, I worked with 30+ doctors who refused the vaccine. There may have been one or two who took the vaccine, but most of them were stockpiling and sharing ivermectin.... Or saying cold showers were the best prevention... Ugh

I hate how many places mandate the vaccine, but give out exceptions without question.

If you are vaxxed recently you should be ok, may get some symtoms, BUT you will be contagious for a few days so i would mask up and stay away from anyone immunicompromised , not vaxxed too.

For me, I tested negative twice after waking up feeling extra groggy. I only had to work a 5 hour shift, and thankfully I put on a mask after telling them I didn't feel well. Before the end of the 5 hour shift I could barely stand, drove the 3 blocks home and hit the side of the garage (just barely) trying to park. So, I get rushed to the ER, wait about 5 hours for my bloodwork to show that I did, in fact, have covid. Couldnt even keep meds down for about 5 days, then as quickly as it hit, 1/2

It was gone. Luckily my 83 year old Grandfather did not catch it. But for 5 days I basically laid in bed feeling like death. Day 6 I was able to eat a sandwich, and later I felt like it never happened. Now my Chef friend lost their taste for months. He thought he might lose his job over it...but no major physical distress, he said it was about the same as a cold. Apparently the variants can vary dramatically. Still shocks me how people responded to it. Had people call it a hoax after I had it2/2

Yeah i realized some of the tests have not kept up with the variants and read false negatives or technically, negative to the strands engineered to test for. Testing for viruses is such a pain!

Yea, that's why PPE is always important. If I even think I'm getting sick a mask goes on, and I keep sanitizer around anyways. My Mom ended up catching a different variant, as did my neighbor within about a week. I've only had it once, and it took almost 3 years for me to get it, but that was plenty for me (speaking of, I need to get the latest booster). Neighbor has had it 4 times...I wish my country treated illness like others, wearing masks during flu season and providing healthcare....

Yeah, culturally we could do so much better. Get the latest multivalent o e, since i started taking i havent caught covid (of course my kids also vaxxed yearly, and my wife had a bad bout of covid last winter but she refuses to get the booster, 4 years now
