set... print... area...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That's why you preview before printing.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not that hard to find, or if not find simply delete the extra columns

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

(the joker) If you don't look at print preview before printing the spreadsheet, then you get what you fucking deserve!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I remember a meeting where some old coot argued that we shouldn't upgrade excel from 2003 because newer editions allowed more rows, up 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

to a million or more, and that this was "too many". 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unless you select all grid lines those pages will just print off blank pages that can be put back in the printer

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

ahhh "set print area". uhhuh

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Won’t it just print out empty paper? And can’t you just stop printing if you see extras are coming out?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Doesn't everyone set a printarea?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There is (at least there was) a flight simulator game hidden in Excel.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Don’t even need to print. The excel file will be very big. Someone in the company all of the sudden had a excel 120 mb. Found out because

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Of 1 cell very long down was coloured grey. So it had to save that, and then save that every cell down was blank. After removed it was 5 mb.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But... Why? Why do you not want people to print Excel sheets? I mean, it's weird, but why punish it?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

To be honest it's not printing data, just turning empty papers, that can be stopped any time.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

that's why I always do "print preview"

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did the math for this. A standard ream of paper is 500 pages. Printing out to XFD1048576 uses 40,628,331 pages (1/?)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Once paper is put through a printer it is heated and curled. It can't be used again or there will be a high chance for a jam (3/3)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That works out to be 81,256.662 remans of paper and at the which would cost about $1,056,341 dollars in paper to print. (2/3)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If this is the evilest thing you can imagine you lack imagination

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

most people who print excel sheets tend to set a printable area

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Some of you fucking suck at imagining things, and it shows.

5 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

Who isn't setting their print range?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A1 notation at it's absolute peak.

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 2

its*

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Jeez man. Paint their windshield while your at it

5 years ago | Likes 67 Dislikes 3

My mom did that to her band teacher but she didn't know that shoe polish was water proof aaaaaand he spent all weekend scraping his windows.

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Man. Their car insurance sucks. No free windshield replacement? Cry safety issue and they don't argue.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Yeah, that'll be a manager that does that, and someone else will actually have to deal with the mess

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ctrl + arrow key will jump to the end of the filled cells and if there are none, the end of the sheet

5 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

This! Thank you!

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

My printer tells me how many pages it will be when printing. Im sure a million pages would throw a flag.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

also, it won't 'eat' a ream. the paper will be blank

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

That's why you make sure to add header and footer text

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No. I've gotten printed out Excel sheets. It prints the cells. So you'll have pages of printed out empty cells.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Even if they are printed blank, it still eats the paper. Once its been heated through the printer it cant be used again or it could jam. -IT

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

That's just what they want you to think. Don't be a sheetple.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

No. I got called to a site several weeks in a row for jammed printers. We would get it fixed with new parts and it would break again.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

heads by putting the paper through once to print the template, then a second time to print the letter that we discovered the cause. (3/X)

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We swapped the printer out with a brand new one and that broke within a few weeks. It wasn't until we saw the users creating letter (2/x)

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We fixed the workflow by sending the pages to a different printer that could be stocked with actual letterheads. (4/4)

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I use excel everyday, but I can't remember the last time I printed a spreadsheet. I don't even have a printer hooked up.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I usually delete unused cells. As rows or columns back if needed later

5 years ago | Likes 203 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Spoken like someone working with Excel daily

5 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

In Excel when you delete a row or column, a new one gets added at the end. In Google Sheets, that row is gone forever

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Like all the time we spend doing things that are productive, unproductive or of inestimable productivityness. Like raising happy kids.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I always set a print range

5 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

1048576 is of course 2^20. XFD is... 24,6,4, so 2^14

5 years ago | Likes 355 Dislikes 1

Of, course.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

With default settings, this prints 36,567,729 pages

5 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

"Fit to page"

5 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Congratulations. This is even more evil. Thanks Satan.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

5 years ago | Likes 128 Dislikes 1

So it's 2^6 = 64 times longer than it is wide?

5 years ago | Likes 45 Dislikes 0

2^34 cells seems like enough right?

5 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

No. I need more because…I want them….

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why not say 17,179,869,184 instead of acting like a smartass? (17.1 milliard/billion)

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 20

The fuck is a milliard?

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

1000 million, what the US calls a billion

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thanks, never heard that before.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Efficiency because I am a work-smart-not-hard-ass. Also. Rude.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

How is it efficient to use a system I'm guessing 80% of the world can't intuitively use? I myself don't know exponents by heart.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

requires less typing. lol why is this important enough to follow up on... like what is at stake here

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

How many countries use milliard?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least twone

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In Scandinavia perhaps?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Milijarda is Croatian for Milliard, which is what we use. Billion for 1000 million is only in the US, AFAIK.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Interesting, we also use milliard but do have billion and billiard (which are 1 000x and 1 000 000x US billion)

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That would round up to 17.2 milliard, Jackass.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

17.17 if you don't round up, I just used only one decimal point.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you were rounding to 2 decimal point wouldn't be .18 since it was .179

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Decimal truncation is just being wrong with extra steps. Sauce: Am physicist, have been wrong with extra steps

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why is using scientific notation "acting like a smartass"?

5 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Because it's not a large enough number to warrant it. Should I say 2^10 instead of 1024? It's a bit ridiculous, isn't it?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

I give 1^1^1^1 fucks, how people write

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not large enough according to who? You don't have to like it, but criticizing it comes across as remarkably petty

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Do people print Excel spreadsheets??

5 years ago | Likes 197 Dislikes 4

Yes and for more than just accounting ledgers- excel can map other data, and sometimes stat mapping can be assisted with physical copies.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Why would you use Excel for that?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Convenience, mostly. Most everyone has excel. Few people have dedicated scientific data correlators so it maps across all the people you

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

want to share it with that dont have those tools.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I guess I should add: the last time I used it that way professionally was almost 20 years ago, so things have changed a bit since, no doubt,

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We do because the company I work for uses it for things that don't need to be spreadsheets.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Ppl print everything.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Do...do you not? Print that shit all the time to review stuff. It's easier if I can highlight/ add in notes manually.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I...do not. I work with large datasets; printing them would be an enormous waste, especially since I make incremental changes all the time.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Usually i turn them into PDFs (only selected cells to avoid unecessary pages in my file) and sometimes people print those PDFs

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I had to take a course on Excel once. Spent the whole time doing pixel art and printing it lol

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I create invoices with excel...

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fair. I used to, too.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Have you MET middle management?

5 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I’m too busy working on my TPS reports to meet anyone

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sasly there are people who change the view so it looks like a word processor then add objects to put text in.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My boss does. I sent him daily pivot tables and charts with productivity and stock data. He prints them for meetings ?

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know people that print everything to read, including emails.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those people scare me.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I balance my bank accounts with it for about 8 years. Keep a good budget that way.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

At times, yes cause even with 2 monitors it's easier to have in front of me than toggling. But I always set the print area to what I need.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I am next to accounting in the company. They print a lot. Paychecks and all that they have to keep physical copy for 5 years.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I print them all the time at work, DEP does everything in weird excel sheets. Some of the expressions are nuts, but they work.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Almost everyday at my work since we use it for customs documentation

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they are using it as a form template that will eventually be filled out by hand.

5 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Only print the summary tables, never the data

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work in pharma research and we print out data to check by hand against the source to make sure it was entered correctly

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you. I also work in pharma R&D and messy SDTMs or, god forbid, TLFs are the bane of my existence.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Many workplaces still want physical records in case servers are somehow lost

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

One of my clients is glad they keep paperrecords after their parent company had a ransomware attack, we didn't lose anything but didn't 1/

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

have access to the digital versions for over a week. Makes "fun" outcomes when you need things like insurance documents. 2/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Fair, but they should have backup servers in place, too

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Really? You have backup servers in place with copies of your data and no connections to anything else (how do you get the data onto them 1/

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Those of us that do know how to use the print selection.

5 years ago | Likes 195 Dislikes 0

Sorry I have to run and stop the printer. It’s on page 16 of 13000

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Coming here to say that. Always use that or print preview, even in Word

5 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

We are a dying breed my friend.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

That's only because instead of having sex we're optimizing our Match-Index lookup algorithms.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I want you to know that I really appreciate this comment.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I appreciate that, but I wish you hadn't. It's too late for me, but you can still save yourself and live a full life, free from Offset() !

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

First to pdf in case we f*ck up (and we will). Afterwards on paper when or if needed

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Why print anything...pdf save to phone, tablet or palm pilot.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

packing slips with initials from QC department. easier to pass around a paper to assembly shop to make notes on while building items.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

...you have a Palm Pilot??

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Uh no...my friend does...and um...yes I do have one.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I work in finance and we print excel sheets all the time

5 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

Same. Though these days it's mostly print to PDF.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Do you do data work? Like analytics or forecasting?

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

yeah.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0
