This is Kiki. My mom lost Moose in early June and said she wouldn't get another dog. But she started looking a little once the shock started wearing off. She had seen pets for sale online, but i told her if she got one to adopt. She slowly started looking on the local Humane Society website. I told her that there were many scared homeless dogs out there that need places to stay. She put in an application and let them know she was looking for a smaller dog she could better handle. The really nice gal that worked the desk kept her in mind when an urgent case came up.
This is her walking into the farmhouse for the first time. She was a foster at first, and my mom decided to keep her. Is this my forever home?
She was too small and scared to stay at the Humane Society. She wasn't doing well in their pens. She was scared and shaking uncontrollably. Mom stepped in to rescue her. This is her first time on the couch getting pets. She was dirty, and had a skin infection on her back. She's been on antibiotics and it's cleared up. She's some kind of Spaniel but besides that we don't know.
She was very timid and scared at first. Mom couldn't leave her alone so she had to get help buying supplies for little Kiki. She still has to get up and walk with you to the bathroom or kitchen.
Mom decided to name her Kiek-Kiek. My grandma used to say "look" or kiek in Low German when she'd tickle your arm as you were falling asleep. My niece would say Kiek-Kiek to my mom when she wanted mom to pet her arm the same way.
Eventually saying Kiek-Kiek over and over quickly got shortened to Kiki. She's become potty and crate trained in the last couple weeks. She's not so shy anymore and has become quite the pest trying to explore the house. We've had to put up gates to keep her out of areas she shouldn't go. But she's so fast and nimble it's quite a task. I'm confident she'll calm down a bit over time.
She knows that being cute will get her out of trouble so she keeps testing the limits. She's only a year old. She needs some time to learn. Eventually she'll be a great doggo. Mom is just the person to teach her.
I can't wait to see how she grows and matures. She's already having a wonderful time sniffing around the farm. I had to stop her fun rolling around in random turds she found in the yard, though. She really loves guys. I can't keep her off my lap when I visit. She was all over my friend and my brother in law too. She turns over and just lays on her back when you give her belly rubs. She's so happy and safe she starts to fall asleep.
