Its not quality of life while running, its just one of those correlation things that works. If you move more often, you'll more likely have better health in general. Its like a study showing people who work their legs live longer, has nothing to do with leg strength and everything to do with heart health.
I can tell you that this is in no way a truth. I've watched too many people in my family die the last few years, thats when you want it the most. When you know its going away, you see it and its horrific.
For many doing "coach to 5k" type programs, with run / walk intervals, a 3k "run" could take 30 minutes. I try to go with "intent" rather than overall speed... In ultramarathons the average pace is often very slow, but it's still considered running as the intent is to run.
High School Cross Country was a looooooooong time ago, but I used it run a 5K under 19 minutes. I really don't remember what my personal record was. I don't think I ever got into the 17s.
I played PoGo for years and at our peak we were walking at like 4km/h, or rather 1km every 15 minutes. Anything faster was not sustainable in long term.

Bro, *gestures broadly --- why?

If you're forcing yourself to walk/run for anything more than the joy of it, you're doing it wrong
RElGNMAN
I am not great at the maths, but if it takes 30 minutes to run 3KM and you increase 20 minutes of your life, isn't that 50 minutes total?

Pretty slow runner if it takes 30 minutes to run 3km.
IliveIdyeIliveagain
Note: The faster you run, the longer you live

Unless you can kneecap your friend so the bear eats him instead

OK so smoking it is

But, seriously, it's *quality of life* you're extending

Running doesn't feel like high quality life though.
charliethewizard
You’re not doing it often enough. Or in interesting enough locations.

But that extra time will be at the end of your life when you want it the least

If it takes you 30min to go 3km, you aren't running.

It's a light jog, with walking breaks

CrisprCAS
Maybe if you have really short legs. I'd do 3.5km in 30min at a fast walk. 4.5~5km would be a jog.
duktayp
Could be I'm not sure what a "km" is...BRB...k, 3km is 1.8m so, I'd say walking speed

I'm in the gym every morning doing 6-10km. Typically at 6-7kph because I prefer a high angle fast walk to a flat jog/run.
Jyzzzy
Yeah it's why I specified long term. 6km/h at 6-8+ hour sessions would be counter productive overall.
