You really shouldn't hold wild babies, some animal mom's recognize their baby by smell and if they smell like you they won't take care of it

Actually, that's a myth. The motherly instinct is very strong. If the young smell funny, the mother will usually just bathe them.

I found the nest and put him back. His brothers and sisters were still nice and cozy inside.

The "smells like human" thing is an old wives tale... it's not remotely true.

I've read it's true about birds of prey. Not about other birds or most mammals,their adults would just avoid their young WHILE you're around

So it's true about animals that have almost no useful sense of smell? Only vultures, parrots, kiwis, and seabirds have good sense of smell.

I'm amazed it let you even hold it. The baby rabbits in my back yard take off like a shot before I even start the mower.

they are easy to catch when they are really small. they dont know how to hide and are easily cornered

Actually kinda does. Predators do often fail to spot them. They blend in amazingly well to most environments.

Hence how so many people keep finding them 'almost-mowed'. They're hiding quite well until you're right on top of them!
