A cursed pirate crew sails into port and kidnaps a young woman, prompting the blacksmith with a crush on her to break a notorious pirate out of prison so they can track the haunted ship down.

It’s still kind of unbelievable how good a movie this is. The cast, the humor, the score, the sound design, the practical effects and stunt work and pacing… this is one of the best Disney flicks from any decade. Johnny Depp gives an inspired performance as Captain Jack Sparrow, and Geoffrey Rush’s turn as Barbossa often goes overlooked. Better than a movie based on a theme park ride has any right to be.
