I have anxiety, depression and panic attacks. I overthink and stress too much. I've been ignoring these problems far too long and finally I'm doing something about it. First step, remove all social media apps that make me feel like crap.

Edit:
First time FP. Thank you all for your encouragement. I know whatsapp isn't social media but my obsessive behaviour in stalking people(online) who ignored my messages was getting too toxic for me. I do need therapy and counseling and will take an appointment asap.

PS: Don't send nudes but cute animal pics are highly appreciated.

Welcome, friend.

Are we the same person? I literally just did this and it feels relieving but also feel like I am missing out on stuff

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I also feel like I'm missing out on stuff. But I know nothing can be more important than my mental health right now.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just ask my boyfriend “what’s relevant right now that I need to know about” and use him as a filter lol

Now start a hobby to fill the free time with!!!!!

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Yes, for now I keep myself busy in work and watch anime to prevent negative thoughts coming in my mind.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

did that, too, cold turkey. had 6 weeks of withdrawal symptoms

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I've already started feeling some withdrawal symptoms, but at no cost will I download them again!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wasn't this posted like a week ago too

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Was it? I don't browse Imgur alot. I made it on this mememaker app.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Excellent move! Good luck in all your life's endeavors.

7 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 2

Thank you. I'll try my best to be happy and focus on my career.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lol

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I did the same 5 years ago. Best decision ever. Sometimes I miss it and then someone tells me about their fb drama lol

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You'll be surprised at how much you don't miss!

7 years ago | Likes 68 Dislikes 1

This is an understatement.I have been off FB for 6+ years, and granted,I am old as hell, but the lack of drama makes me feel 20 years younger

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I did the same 5 years ago. Don’t miss it one bit. Funny once you delete it you start to see how much people have their faces buried in FB

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I'm actually feeling much better after deleting it

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

Getting off social media was one of the best things I did. Feels like a weight comes off your shoulders/mind. Life is more peaceful.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I never regretted it once & it always makes me happy seeing people take that step. Kudos to you!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes! I know what a relief that is, congrats @OP!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks @DeDutchDudeDatDoes !

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hopefully Imgur doesn't contribute

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

Imgur has actually helped me alot in understanding my mental illness and that I shouldn't feel ashamed about it.

7 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 1

That's great! :)

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imgur has helped me in giving me posts that make me smile and not compare myself to others. The other apps had to go though. I feel you!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Yay!

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I finally did too a week ago! I can already see an improvement. It’s nice not comparing lives and being ‘on’ all the time.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Good job taking these steps. Just be careful you're not isolating yourself from your loved ones. Social media IS useful for keeping contact.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

I'll definitely keep that in mind. For work purposes I have slack and hangouts to keep in contact with my colleagues.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Did this over a year ago and never looked back. I feel 100 times better and more productive

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

See way too much from instagram and facebook on here. People forgetting the rules because a lot of it is getting upvotes.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Best thing you can do for your METAL health *moshing wildly*

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Bro, good for you. I made my wife and I do this after a rough patch. Improved our marriage 100x over. She's now living with the guy she met.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I never thought of WhatsApp as a social media. More of a way to message those around the world without paying a ton of money for it

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Actually, whatsapp is good, but I used to keep checking if someone's online and not replying to my messages. Kinda got really toxic for me.

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

That's an easy fix. Go to your settings and turn off "online status" and "read receipts". You wont be able to see either.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That's understandable

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I know how you feel I just deleted imgur and I've never felt better

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Now, if only you could delete Imgur

7 years ago | Likes 228 Dislikes 3

Where you would post that then?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Closes the imgur app.....*not even 10 seconds later* opens imgur app

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now, if only I could delete Imgur...

I’ve had to take hiatuses before because people get on a rant about politics or controversial stuff. I come for the memes and dog gifs.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Silence!!!!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah right, i get off of imgur on my computer and immediately open it on my phone.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

easy, post THE gif 3 times, get permabanned

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

What is 'the' gif? Could I have a description?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hulk Smash.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Was surfing the incoming tide of UserSub today and witnessed such an event. Have to salute those who choose to go out like that, a Gificide

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ey, I will if it gets toxic for me >.<

7 years ago | Likes 46 Dislikes 4

Dont tempt me

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why was whatsapp toxic for you? The other 2 I get

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

If what's app is toxic for you, it's your address book that is the problem.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't read the comments if you want to avoid a toxic environment

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

Yeah, you fuckers definitely fall under "cruel and unusual".

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least it's not as bad as youtube comments

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

get a used 125cc dirtbike/trail-bike and see how easy it is to forget everything while getting to the top of a mountain in 30 minutes.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bikes are too heavy for me. But I do offroading with my scooty(activa honda) as the roads in India are just like mountain paths?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I deleted my app for facebook. I still have Instagram, but it is just memes and comics at this point. It's so much better

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I did the same a while back, though I made an IG for my cat, no regrets.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I haven't been on FB in over 4 years. Best decision.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It’s good that Facebook finally has an opting for “deletion” now. (I’m sure they still keep everything though.) Welcome to the club!

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Each and everything will always be in their database. Deletion option is just to make us feel like we are in control .

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I deleted mine a year ago. Never looked back. It’s like the world opened up again

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I understand the rest but why whatsapp?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Used to stalk people who ignored my messages and get pissed off. Too much overthinking on my side.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Fair enough I understand now, I don't use those others features but cheers for informing me

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I know how you feel and have been treated the same. I stopped messaging people who ignore me.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You know you can turn off the blue ticks? Means people can't see if you've read it and you can't see if they have.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I quit my job and retired. Stress free now..........

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lucky you. I'm in college and I'm already so stressed out;_;

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Change up your social media habits but don't quit on them. I'd like to quit FB too, but I ignore the crap I don't like.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I tried to ignore the crap, I thought I was strong enough (mentally). But I realised that I'm weak and I need to work on myself for now.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You take care of you first. Good luck and walk tall.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ooooo tell me more!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I feel like always staying connected is having a negative impact on my mental health as well. I left my phone off all day because I was 1/3

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

literally passed out from meds and when I woke up the next day I was bombarded with passive aggressive messages from butthurt friends 2/3

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and family. It feels like I can never disconnect and be alone anymore. I avoid FB like the plague, it’s exhausting always being connected.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

WhatsApp is social media?

7 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

No but being able to see if and when people read your message can have a negative effect.

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

I see. Makes sense

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can turn that off

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 1

I did that, and it actually had a positive impact on me. No more checking if they read it - they'll reply when they feel like it.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it's healthier to try to learn why he/she gets obsessed with that and try to change it, instead of uninstalling it altogether.

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Shhh, arbitrarily deleting shit rather than dealing with problems is the modern way.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 2

yeah cuz then you get to be one of those people that brag about how you deleted facebook and how much better off you are!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ding!
