Almost like what someone who was installed to destabilize the West would do...

the Trump Administration cannot govern because it is not an Administration. IT IS A REGIME. it does not administer. it controls. it rules via chaos and brutality. it's only real drive is for its Executive to consolidate more power from the other branches and levels of government until it has complete control. the question becomes why the Congress, House and Senate, even the Republican parts, allow this to continue. their submission just creates the situation where they will no longer exist.

The screw worm is Trump.

He is screwing America in every way imaginable.

They can't govern, and never planned to. All they wanted was the power to do/take/destroy what they wanted and fuck over everyone else.

This is fiscal conservatism at its finest.

They're the same picture.

It makes more sense if you assume the _real_ cost is $500M, and they're going to pocket the difference.

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Since it will now be done with maximum graft and cronyism, it's going to cost 20-30 times that even, and that's before we get the privilege of litigating for years through corrupt courts for the privilege of trying to do it correctly. Again. In another administration.

I'm under the assumption the $1 billion requested is already a massive grift, and we might see like $100 million actually go towards combating them if we are lucky.

GOP FAIL. vote them out

Somehow the screwworms turn green and start growing faster.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Someone send him a photo of a screwworm in a tan suit, that'll get him taking it seriously.

And when it gets approved, about 99.9% of its funding will go to some no-bid contractor who already is heavily invested in right-wing ventures who will spend less than 1% of it actually doing the job while reporting using all of it and then needing more because the job was harder than anticipated.

How r u going to put a man with a worm in his brain in charge of shit and not think he’s going to unleash a worm border attack eventually?!?

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

This pisses me off that this ends with “Government efficiency”. This has nothing to do with efficient government. This is incompetent leadership.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This isn't news. We already know trump and everyone in the regime can not govern. The cancer only cares about itself and money

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure....

1 month ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

I am strangely hungry for pound cake now

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

There is way more money to be made in fixing a problem than in preventing it. Like the $2 million reflecting pond budget that suddenly became $16 million, I bet if the books were opened for that contractor you would see millions gone missing or donated to trump causes.

That's the thing with prevention - some people will only see "it doesn't do anything, why are we wasting money?", and will be super silent once the preventable thing comes down hard

Basically me at IT support

Y2K is a great example of this. All the people that talk about how it was a dud and not really an issue completly ignoring the decade of effort from the entire industry to make that the case.

Or the ozon layer

Oh don't worry about that one all the billionaires are making sure that goes away again thanks to all their megaconstellations

Americans are too short-term in their thinking. They would rather pay nothing today and pay ten times the amount in the future as opposed to paying twice as much today to avoid paying ten times the amount in the future.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 4

Humans in general are bad at long-term planning and prevention, but some people love to ruin it just to feel superior

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That’s not an “American” thing. That’s a Trump thing. Most of us are on the prevention train, and pay arm and leg over getting sick/out of shape/unhealthy. To a fault.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

At least 77 million Americans voted for Trump. And close to 90 million Americans chose not to vote because they thought things under Kamala Harris wouldn't be much different from things under Trump. That is close to half the American population who didn't see anything dangerous with Trump's short-sighted thinking.

Isn't Trump a screwworm

1 month ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

For the first couple seconds, I thought that was the joke. And then I kept reading. Looks like the joke is on us.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

The program was dedicated to monitoring and containing the New World screwworm in Central America. The cuts dissolved the monitoring stations that acted as a biological buffer zone, which previously kept the parasitic flies contained south of the border. Shortly after these budget reductions and staff cuts to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, flesh-eating screwworms returned to Texas and New Mexico. $1 billion requested to fight the screwworms is equal to 67 years of preventing them

1 month ago | Likes 119 Dislikes 0

South of the border you say... I wonder how many people will say a Wall would have kept them out

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It's already happening

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

something about an ounce of prevention.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Don't worry. They are only going to use a tiny fraction of that money to actually combat them.

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Probably just make it much worse, pocket most of the cash, blameshift, and leave us with an infestation that can never be truly contained.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Screwworm used to be fairly common here. A very successful government program eradicated them from the country. We’re absolutely capable of getting rid of them again. Just not with this miserably corrupt administration. It probably wouldn’t cost 100 mil to do right now. Ninety percent of that billion is grift. Any excuse with these parasites, and I don’t mean the worms.

This is a direct example of how soft power works. You use your money to help other people with things that lead to good outcome for yourself as well.

Help other people? What are you, some kinda commie?
