Armored Ciri Progress: Waist Belts

An update of my Armored Ciri cosplay: waist belts! This design is Klaus Wittmann’s artwork for an alternative Ciri outfit (Witcher 3). The belts are comprised of three… belts: a base vinyl wrap and two visible belts.

The belts are actually made of EVA foam and painted to look like leather, and the buckle and loop holder thing are 3D printed. I did this because of cost and availability; finding a dark brown leather belt with stitching and a center bar buckle was one thing, and then if I did find it, it was minimum $20 per belt and I needed two. It just didn’t make sense to drop $40 plus shipping on such a minor piece of the cosplay! The topmost belts do not fasten like regular belts; they instead have Velcro closures, which are hidden by the bigger hip pouch. I didn’t want to risk the EVA foam wearing out/the paint cracking off if I were to fasten the belts the traditional way. I’ve also added more shadowing/weathering to the corset since my post yesterday!

inb4 people saying I should work with real leather: I plan to and would love to learn! This is my first cosplay after about a 3 year hiatus so I’ve already had to rebuild my cache of equipment and materials, which was an investment; I would love to expand my repertoire to include leather working but it just was not in the cards for this one :)
