All humans deserve joy and happiness. I know I find it in the small things, butterfly's for my Cracker Crash, Metallica playing on my Cars stereo for my beautiful Kiddo, the cell for my precious Apollo saying hello, can you hear me? What makes you happy? Happy and joy you deserve. What makes YOU HAPPY?
I found mine in building / tinkering with things. I never really had the time to do that before with my last relationship + barely getting by financially due to said relationship. It’s a peaceful life
I feel this in my soul! So hard to feel true joy because I’m always on edge waiting for something bad to happen and take it away again. My mom couldn’t be happy and my siblings and I weren’t allowed to feel it either. She’d always say or do something to ruin it.
My wife is like this. Our life is wonderful but her anxiety keeps her from experiencing it. We have a nice house in an impossibly unaffordable city. We are young and healthy. But she is kept indoors most days for fear of terrible things
the worst part is when the anxious thoughts turn out to be correct sometimes. makes them a lot harder to ignore, and i know its most likely cherry picking, but illogical emotion brain doesnt really care about that
I feel like there are fuck ups I make for things that happen that happened because I was too relaxed. If I was more on guard, I would have caught them. Sometimes I think it's true too.
Exactly. Therapy and meds have helped me so much. I have gone from feeling anxious every day of my life to just taking life day by day. There are no good or bad days, there’s just days. I’m not keeping score anymore, I can just live knowing that tomorrow is a new day.
Stop, breath, what makes you happy? No person can fill this space. Find happy, joy in your environment. What do you see, hear, feel in your environment that brings joy, happiness? Do let let it depend on a person, just the environment you are in. My car, good gracious, my deck, my walk or hike. You are deserving. Find, feel happiness. Bring that amazing thing to you and yours
I tell people I want things to be boring. If it's boring I can find something to do and control my stimulation level. But if everything is interesting I'm forced into dealing with things and those things are usually not good. I don't get to control whether it overstimulates me.
I want boring for the exact opposite reason. I had a job that forced me to be in control (security sup) despite my anxiety. I don't like to go out because I know people are gonna act stupid, and I feel the need to point it out to them while expecting anyone can turn violent whenever. I have an expectation for the way people "should" act, and get anxiety when they don't...
I’d laugh at that therapist and leave then call the credit card company for a charge reverse. What a bunch of weasel words. Arbitrary ones. When you’ll spend your whole life doing that and it’s passed you by? Yeah….
Yeah I hate to agree but words that sound like deep impactful information as this is trying, often aren't actually useful.
The problem isn't that you dont know how to feel joy, many with depression still can have fun with friends etc. Its that their problems seem unfixable to them so they end up apathetic. People need to learn to address this healthily, not how to laugh about it.
It triggers me to the point feels like I’m 12 again stuck watching Oprah and her parade of garbage shrink “guests” (plus her own verbal diarrhea) spewing “positive vibes only! Be the change you want to be! Turn that frown upside down!” No sustenance and dodging the facts of the matter that society and families grind folks down mentally and a therapist is just there to reverse poison your thoughts that it basically boils down to being your fault
As somebody who has spent this fine Sunday on a good old menty-b, it doesn't work for me. I don't know how to handle stress. I've been pushing through using maladaptive strategies I was given in my family home until my mind and body stopped cooperating.
Now, I also don't know how to deal with joy, but that's another story.
I'm sorry you've had a shitty day. If it makes even a tiny difference, you did something good without knowing it -- I have never heard the term menty-b before (I'm old) and I had a little lol at that. So thank you :)
"I've been pushing through using maladaptive strategies I was given in my family home until my mind and body stopped cooperating."
Thats such an apt way to describe it. I'm learning and doing better than I was but much of the time I think I've lost hope I'll have a life worth living. So like...what am I doing all this for?
As I type this, I'll have been alive exactly a week longer than I had planned last week. So I want you to know that it's going to be okay. You can heal. It's going to suck. It might take a while. But you can heal
I had to go through ART therapy before I could stop using the same maladaptive patterns I was brought up with. I finally feel like I can handle good relationships.

I don't see life as worth living. Simple as that.

I'm healing for revenge. To track down and kill the man who killed my father. Or my name is not Inigo Montoya.

Joke's on you, I'm not even healing at all.

It needs to stop happening if I'm going to start healing from it

Can't imagine the hell her young life was to not only do that to her but make her children suffer as well. Generational trauma is so real.
Pinkydeepinachihuahua
Yea I'm just gonna take weed gummies and hope for the best.

Being sceptical of your own happiness is such a bitch. "Things are going well. Too well. Something bad is coming." Self inflicted poisoning.
Criture
Is it? Or is it planning ahead for the times when it might be bad again.

I live in this constant state. I always expect the good things to never happen so I’m not let down when they don’t

I know these feelings well. It's such a frustrating, invisible disability. I'm glad she has you.

I'm at the point where I can't tell if I'm actually happy or if it's just... Normal? Like I don't think I've felt actual happiness and joy in years.

Always expect the worst so you can actually be happy when something finally goes your way for once.

I don't know if that's an opposite reason, but it's certainly a valid one.

What's menty-b?
Foxsayy
It's from a meme describing a mental breakdown as a menty-b.
