Hey imgur. This is probably dumb. But my dumb ass is trying to get into a program to teach english in Japan. I have been growing in anxiety and depression the last few years and need to do something and this seems like a big game changer.

It wont fix my problems. But considering my problems are mostly caused by not doing anything. Well you can see where I am going.

So I need cheers and advice and stuff I need to do before moving to another country.

Also just nice thoughts since my brain is going only through every horrible possibility.

You might want to check into this deeper. I know two people that went to Japan to teach english. The money sounded great until they (2)

found out how expensive it was to live there. Lots of money here was basically minimum wage there, if not less.

True. I am gonna save. But which company did they work for, cuz the one i am applying to seems to pay pretty well all considered

You'll get to have the joy of teaching them to say Coke

I am more concerned with teaching them that their our know rules in english. Like seriously our language is pretty fucky when you look at it

Just trial and error, no teacher is an expert starting off so no pressure. Maybe start off by explaining English can be a funny language -

Give examples and explain the examples in Japanese. It's baby steps then walking then striding. You got this.

At least for a year i hope to be at one of the big conversation schools. So the basic proficiency will be a bit higher. I hope

1/4 This is what you do. You take gradual steps outside of your comfort zone right here and now. Go to a mall / store / park with strangers

2/4 Then go out to a restaurant by yourself. Treat yo self. Go see a movie in a theater far away. Go try an open mic night.

After that, try to strike up conversation with like minded people. Church is a good place since some are nice. If that isn't your thing..

4/4 Try to get a pen pal on imgur or reddit. I'm open to some conversation if needed. I've been there. You got this.

Heh. Thanks. I should note my anxiety is garden variety crippling nonsense. Not actually crippling. Biggest problem with my life rn is 1/2

Current job. I work between 40 and 80 hours a week sometimes. My rationale is if i aint got a life here might as well try something new. 2
