But I’d rather be on my ass than in an abusive relationship
Kaivarii0210
I'm really proud of you for standing up for yourself
photoGary
I applaud you! Anyone trying to rule power over someone else is by definition insignificant. Walkaway.

You're making a good decision!

Explain calmly and rationally that if he ever lays a hand on you in anger he better leave or he might not wake up in the morning.

If he has the power to actually kick you out and is just that fond of reminding you of that power, he’s bad news and it’s time to go.
NuthinButCookies
Now be prepared for the love bombing to continue the cycle. Don't but it. It's never genuine.
updootyourpootsnoot
now you're the SO
VirtualHugger
While I dont know you I'm still proud of you =)
TheQuoll
Remember. He has to sleep.
Cebrail
Good for you @op nobody should ever remain in abusive relationships. There’s plenty of fish in the sea I’d this one turns out a moray
Muunk
Uhhh, I think you should leave.
OmenJones
brianterrel
By and large, abusers don't get better over time. You should leave.

But are you sure you don't belong to the kitchen ? Maybe your name is Brian or you are a great chef !

Next time you stand up, walk out while you're on your feet!

Standing up for yourself is good. Staying in a relationship with someone who *chooses* to treat you that way is not. It will continue.
Platypushat
Please get out, but be careful.

My SO showed some signs of this in our first 3-6 months. I always stood up to him and showed him it was not accepatable. Broke it off for 3m
Now we’ve been together 5yrs with no problems. We talked about that and seems he was non-intent testing me. His dad abused him and mom. At
Times he thanked me for setting him straight and showed him love WITH boundries. So he was loved but he had to sort himself to love me.
What i am saying is if you love him set BOUNDRIES but show him love. Some of my worst behaviors were out of fear and trauma.
AntikytheraMechanism31415
Stand your ground. He will either correct his behaviour or try he will try and gaslight you. Either way you need to be firm.
Sunshine12345
Tell the people in your life, as many as possible, and leave. Don't give yourself the space to take him back. File a report.
aycaramba
Look for Dr. Ramani videos on YouTube. It will help you to see clearly the kind of abuse and how to recover from it.
SolHSA
Stay safe.
wobblecopterrrr
Kinda passive aggressive but w/e, fukem
Very passive aggressive, and I believe in change but also understand that I need to set my boundaries now
Katusa
Good for you!!

Hell yes, good on ya.

ServaDoctrina
May I suggest listening to Destiny's child while eating chocolate ice cream?
Lmao girl I just might

“Jokes” that are really there’s to kick me out and send me home to my family or leave me at the airport

Yikes!! Start working on your exit strategy!

So..Emotional abuse.

Leave now, @op. You aren't responsible for fixing what is obviously a flawed person. Staying now is a risk to your future safety
whatintarnation9
I would say jokes on him and leave.
Targe0
Red Flag alert. Bail out if things don't change, you don't deserve that kind of shit. No one does.
afsdpckapjadfkasef
Broooo run away that's gaslighting and very unhealthy, imagine if you joked about dumping him

Yeh that stops right now or you should leave .. that's emotional abuse
GoodEarthBetweenMyToes
Yup. You may be able to salvage it, but if they don't accept the correction, then start packing.
Apollymkatistrafia
Nope. Call it out. Get out. That shit has no place in a good relationship.

Oh my God really. Did he raise his voice slightly as well?
At times tbh. And he has cntd with the “jokes” even after asking him to stop. Threatening someone’s way of life is never funny
UnicornBabysitter
Yep. Time to leave. It’s not easy but you can do it!
miraclemaxcoc
Yikes. Get out, you deserve much, much better

Is it a joke, or is it to test your response to a means of control? "Do what you're told or you'll be removed"

Bookmarked for later. Wish I had this 10 years ago with my ex. I definitely criticised, but he did all 4. We dated 3 years too long
kaoticone
Reading that made me really think about the sarcastic jokes I tell sometimes. Gotta quit before they're not sarcastic anymore.
My sister has been like this with me for 30 years, and it still hurts. I know she loves me, she just expects everyone to have thick skin
Thank you so much for this! You’ve brought back the memories of studying this in school and I really appreciate it.
My pleasure. Look after yourself
Angelsinmymouthfield2
Well now I feel bad for joking about it, but you should run in the opposite direction from that boy. Manipulators will prey on that kind of-
Behavior. Dm me if you’re in the Bay Area and I can put him on a list. I’m a PO and I see how this works out WAY too often.
SerenePrincess013
Police or parole?
HUGHgReaction
You will just put someone on a list based off what some random person told you? Maybe the abusive person will say the same about the SO 1/2
2/2 and you can put that person on the list too.
BendadickCumabatch
Sounds like he just wants you out.
You know that from one post and a comment?
jdwagBugVillain
OP should just leave then everyone wins.

Psst.. hey, Katusa? Just so you know, there's a big difference between sayin "He just wants you out" and "Sounds like he just wants you out"
The "sounds like" part is very important. That poster there, Benedril Cumberbund, he doesn't "know" anything about it, and not does he claim
