I think that 1st term Representatives and Senators should be forced to make minimum/poverty wage. They need to see and experience what 99% of their Constituents live like. No stocks, no endorsements, no kickbacks.....NOTHING! Live like the below average American lives. If there's any kind of payment that they receive, they should be held accountable and spend time in jail. Food stamps, Social Security, Disability......they need to feel what we feel; the stress, anxiety of where their next meal comes from, being able to pay rent/mortgage, being able to provide for their children and give them a safe place to live and grow. Education in the inner city, the ghettos, trailer parks......And maybe if they make it through that first term, they can figure out how to fix us, America and her citizens.
DO TO THEM WHAT THEY DO TO US!
WE DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER FROM OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS!
How do we as a society make this happen? How can this be done?
Edit: Freeze all assets that anyone may have for their entire service?

It also wouldn't matter if you didn't pay them at all. Their money comes from bribes (lobbying) anyway.

my solution is to make being in politics a mandatory service like a country might mandate doing military service.

This.

The problem is when creating a situation where only wealthier people can afford to run and hold the seat, something like mean household

though would be reasonable while incentivizing policies that push up incomes for average Americans.

Devil's advocate: then only the rich can afford to be in Congress for the first term.

I know, but maybe freeze all assets?

Legislating was never meant to be a full time job. We should run it with a draft. You are paid the median income of the district you 1/2

Require them to attend >75% of votes from their district office. Once you have served you cannot be drafted again for that district/state./4
