TL;DR: OP finished her first book, wants to show off and get some fake internet points for it
So... where to start?
I always liked writing. I always liked books. So naturally, I wanted to write my own one day. I didn't finish most stories I started, so I am at least proud of finishing it this time around. And now, over the past one and a half year, I accomplished this goal. First Drafts done, and I am probably going to start editing around Christmas.
I failed you
No banana for size. Instead, have a Dogmeat.
As for the details of how much I wrote: I wrote 103 275 words, which make up 399 pages and countless hours. Story is about an amnesiac mercenary witch trying to get rid of the demon that possesses her. Oh, and there are ritual murders, lost loves, magic, swords, guns and hopefully halfway decent plot twists. It takes place in a world similar to our Victorian Age. It's more Gaslamp Fantasy than Steampunk.
As for things I found out while writing and researching this book:
- Thank God (and everyone else involved) for the Internet
- Victorian photos of the Dead. Ew.
- There is a cult that venerates Prince Phillip as a God. No, seriously: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince_Philip_Movement (Don't ask how I found that out)
- When electric light was installed in the first houses (first developed in 1802, commercialised in the 1870s, first electric lights in the 1880s)
- Miracle of Sound. The singer, not the movie. Seriously, his music motivated me so much during the writing process. https://www.youtube.com/user/miracleofsound

Am I doing this right? Anyway, this little guy here is not so little anymore, but still likes snuggling up to my laptop if I'm watching films or writing. If he is not sleeping, he is stealing my hair ties.

Sooo...where can we buy it?
katwa
Not yet, I'm afraid. Maybe 2018. At the earliest.
QSlade
Do you plan on setting up a site to promote it? Make sure you keep us posted
katwa
Will do! I won't create a page just yet, I think it's too early for that for now.
AwesomeName
Do you have a professional editor?
katwa
Not yet. I will edit on my own based on feedback from different people, after a few rounds of edits I will hire a professional editor.

Sounds like a good plan

Traditional or self publishing. Any tips on actually finishing a novel? I got 90 pages/~30,000 words and...quit.
katwa
Publishing: Don't know what's it going to be. As for the tips... Motivation by others helped me. Friends, family, other people on forums. 1/

2/2 Make a realistic goal per day (time or words) and track it with writetrack. Think about what comes next. It's my first finished, so...
AsAHistorian
I recently finished my first novel also! What really helped me finish was a lot of outlining. I discovery-wrote for a long time until 1/?
AsAHistorian
I had the general plot figured out, and then outlining showed me that I knew how each step was going to go, more or less, and gave me 2/3

concrete goals. I think it was very helpful in finishing. But anyway, congrats @OP!
