Laws? No
Follow rules of the road? No thanks
Courtesy? Never heard of it
Common sense? Pass

Cutting people off? Yes please
Turning left on red? Ofcourse
Crossing double yellow? He'll yeah
Turning left from the center lane? Duh

Everyday I hate ebikes more, you wanna act like a motorcycle but not follow the laws a motorcyclist must follow, you want to act like a cyclist but dont want to be constrained to bike only paths (where even they dont want you to be on) or travel at a reasonable speed.

If you ask me, if it can do 40mph and has a throttle its a motorcycle, clear as that. You should need a license, insurance, license plate and gear to legally be on the road.

If i hit your car we can exchange information, you can take pictures of my license plate and my driver's license for your claim, one of these idiots hits you and you are fucked, complete lack of accountability.

Been trying to be patient with this new tech but stuff like this happens so often im just sick of it. Not even cyclist would do shit like this.

Edit: Due to camera distortion it looks like i left a huge gap to the car in front of me, when one of the ebikes fills the gap you can tell its only about 15ft or 1 car lenght, a good safe following distance if I need an out.

Kids do stuff like this on bikes all the time- no motor needed. This is definitely more on the parents that gave their kids e-bikes without teaching them the rules of the road. As for possible damages caused by a bike- unlikely, and minimal at most. The first point of impact on a bike is an air-filled rubber bumper (front tire) and it's unlikely to cause much, if any, damage. I rear-ended a car with my moped years ago (they stopped short just to be a dick) and, though insured, there was no mark

Just tell yourself they're wildlife... proceed with caution around them :D

Honestly, to keep my sanity, that might just work

As an avid motorcycle rider and bicycle rider untrained E-bike riders are ruining it for everyone. The expensive ones are just as quick as most motorcycles up to about 40mph. They require no train or liscensing and most states haven't caught up to the technology with their laws. they should also be required to have full motorcycle lights. I don't even ride my bicycle without front and rear lights anymore.

100% agree

Man, I still want cyclists to be required to have a license. I can only speak for where I live, but cyclists here are some of the worst offenders. Ignoring stop signs and stop lights. Cycling with their heads down instead of focusing on the road ahead of them. They're a danger to themselves and everyone around them.

I mostly see bad motorized bikers of any kind, this does not surprise me

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I cant disagree, I see alot of dumb riders too but this is just beyond stupid

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Motorcycles follow laws?

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

We atleast try to unlike these morons

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Some do, some don't.
Ones the people notice most, dont.
Same goes about ebikes, escooters, bikes, scooters, runners, walkers and grandmas with a rollator.
They go like they are supposed to, you hardly notice/remember. They jump in front of you in traffic, you go "that damn grannies go like there is no tomorrow again!"

Check out this video, "grandma on scooter takes out cyclist video" https://share.google/rdhBNk2pYA6WiWiIx

Speak of the devil lol

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That is bad, that gran is definitely at fault here.
Though, I am just wondering, when the cyclists ride on a busy road, especially group of them, they are getting in the middle of it, sometimes in the opposite lane. When the whole road is at their disposal, they ride on the very edge. Can anyone explain?/rh

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Im going to assume they try to hug the inside of every corner to shorten the overall distance traveled? Kinda like staying on the racing line

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Should at minimum be treated as a moped.

1 month ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Mopeds are motorcycles so just treat them as motorcycles

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

That depends on a jurisdiction.
Where I live there are legal limits on speed of electric bikes and electric scooters.
Mopeds are separate category and these can be driven without licence, can be driven on bike lanes.
It all does vary depending on where you are.

Im in LA which is basically the wild west, people mod stuff straight out of the box which make writing rules for them virtually impossible and enforcing those rules basically a nightmare if once pulled over with a touch of a button the ebike reverts back to a legal mode

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe they thought you were letting them through, since you stopped 30' from the car in front of you

1 month ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 6

Camera distortion, when one of them fills the gap you can tell its more like 15ft, safe following distance on a motorcycle incase im in danger of getting rear ended I have escape routes, nice try but no. Now, try and explain away the rest of their stupid behavior, I listed it, give it a shot

1 month ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

If we're calling that an electric bicycle, then a motorcycle is nothing more than a gasoline bicycle. In my opinion an ebike should be treated as an electric motorcycle the same way electric cars are still automotives.

Roll tide

I agree, there is something wrong in the definition of an E-Bike in the US law. In other countries an E-Bike does only support the pedaling. Once it has a throttle lever it is a light motorcycle. When over a certain speed (25 km/h in the EU) it is considered a regular motorcycle with all the consequences of license an roadworthy requirements.

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

#Disagree. I think there's an enforcement problem here. The same way a cyclist if they did that should get a ticket.

I ride a lot of bicycles, one of them an ebike ( replaced center crackshaft with pedal assist e-motor -- fun small project ). You follow the same rules as a regular bicycle.

These guys are just bad actors on the road -- dangerous on any vehicle.

But...they were trying to cross the street near a crosswalk? It looks like they would have gone sooner if there hadn't been cars turning into the lane.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

And if my grandmother had wheels she would have been a bike

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

You can literally see them waiting for cars to turn left so they can cross. But once the light in front of them turns green, they have to wait for that silver car in the oncoming lane to move past them to cross. Or were you so triggered by the mere presence of bikes that you couldn't see what was going on around them?

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Or ooorrrr you know, dont cut people off and maybe just maybe use the lane specifically designated for turning left. Which ofcourse they didn't bother to use . Oh you need proof because the video wasn't proof enough, turning left from the center lane that continues forward.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Light was red when they entered the street. No one was cut off.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Except me who was sitting in my lane when they came up from behind, got infront of me and forced me to swerve around them as they proceded to turn left from the center lane, but sure lets go with your explanation

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If they dismounted their bikes and crossed in the crossWALK they would have the right of way. As things happened, the crosswalk plays no role at all in the situation

Motorized bikes should be illegal to drive unless they are licensed, have lights, and are driven by licensed and INSURED drivers. Who pays when a kid does damage, bodily harm or kills someone?

1 month ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

It is in other parts of the world. Common sense seems to be missing in the US when it comes to vehicle law making.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This is America. When the kid doing illegal shit on the e-bike gets hit his family sues the driver who hit him.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As should unmotorized ones; they can have quite a lot of speed and are already considered vehicles that are expected to use roads. We should take a serious look at people going around on legs without insurance, too. You could literally run into someone with those.

1 month ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Might want a /s in there

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I suppose so.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The new laws on the books cannot come quick enough, im so sick of this shit, i 100% agree with you but I wish and hope the people with peddle assist that use them for transportation or exercise dont get roped into this mess. There's alot of Grey in there

1 month ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

These are not "motorized bikes" tho, they are electric motorcycles that have specific loopholes around them so that they can be sold unlicensed. The need is to close the legal loopholes, not to force every biker with a pedal-assist to get license and insurance.

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I really hope what ever the idiots come up with won't affect the people using them for transportation or exercise, it shouldn't be a blanket law as it won't be fair for the people using them responsibly

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What would stop someone using it for transportation or exercise from having insurance and a license?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Its just another barrier for entry, specially for the peddle assist models.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 3

So if a pedal assist bike hits a pedestrian is there insurance? What if the person is a negligent driver? I hope the victim is YOU when it happens (and it will).

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The bike at the back wasn't turning in the intersection, on a red light or otherwise; it was entering the driveway on the left, which has always been legal. It also didn't cut anyone off. Are you sure you posted the video you intended to?

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 3

(driveway, entrance, whatever it's called, it's clearly on the near side of the intersection and is probably where one can find the business advertised by the large, red sign above.)

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

OK lets play, turning left from center lane, turning left where a left turn is not legal as it crosses over a turn lane (see first point), yes in fact all 3 cut me off while I sit in my lane waiting for the light to turn. Lane splitting and filtering is legal here but as only one lane continues forward those are not permitted on a single lane, hence while im sitting behind a car. You sure you watched the video I posted?

1 month ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

For the rules about filtering/splitting, that I will admit ignorance on, and I don't know whether they came from your right or your rear, so maybe they made an error there and should have entered the lane behind you instead of before you, I couldn't say.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Its on the fucken video bro what are you talking about, its right there for you to see

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I don't know what you think we're seeing.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Idk what you are seeing, maybe put on your reading glasses?

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

The difference between a left turn from the center lane and a lane change quickly followed by a left turn is difficult to distinguish, and I see little point in debating it. The rider looked for traffic. The two bikes that remained on the road proceeded to wait to turn left; they didn't cut anyone off; they moved into the left turn lane. Granted, they could have gotten farther into it, but I'm willing to give riders some deference on that for safety, and you were clearly able to go around them.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The two bikes that remained on the road proceeded to wait to turn left; they didn't cut anyone off; they moved into the left turn lane.- you

The thing about being full of shit is that the proof is right here that you are just dead wrong and pulling shit out of your ass. Clearly turning left from the middle lane, as you can see the left lane (turning lane is clear.

Im sitting in my lane while all 3 proceed to go infront of me if thats not cutting me off then idk

1 month ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You're right that they didn't quite make it into the turning lane and are instead at the edge. That's the only real issue here, and it is a relatively minor one, all things considered.

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Well when _I_ say someone was "cut off" it implies that something got in their way, forcing them to change their velocity or preventing them from making the maneuver they wanted to. These people crossed in front of you at no inconvenience to yourself, so I wouldn't call it cutting you off, but if that's what you mean by it, then sure, they did, and that's fine. We do this all the time on the road. In fact, you're supposed to leave intersections open so crossing traffic can "cut you off".

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Well when _I_ say someone was "cut off" it implies that something got in their way, forcing them to change their velocity or preventing them from making the maneuver they wanted to.

I had to literally swerve around them so by your own logic this qualifies

1 month ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I really really hope you are trolling because 1, even with video proof of the events your brain filter is so clogged only about 10% of the information got through and you just completely invented the rest and 2, you keep contradicting yourself at every turn. If you aren't trolling please please never ever drive
