I have this bee hive/nest in a tree outside my garage. Is it safe to leave it alone? Or should it be removed? I live in Southern California and have planted native pollinator plants all over to attract Monarch butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees. Just didn’t think they’d set up house so close by. Thanks for your advice!

You would be wise to have it relocated. A strong Santa Ana wind would melt/shred that fragile honey comb.

Call a beekeeper. Your local ag extension office should be able to get you in contract with one, & they'll handle the safe rehoming of them

Bees are generally non-aggressive - there are exceptions. As long as they have enough room to go about their business should be OK

There is a flight path. Keep out of it, and away from the nest. Unless you like honey, then use PPE.

Find a beekeeper not an exterminator, they’ll re-hive them. And then take a lap we need them more than they need us and you did a good 👍

Doubt they visit your flowers, bees fly away unloaded and fly back flower hopping and are full load before get near flowers close to hive

bees fly like 1 to 2 miles away as they wonder back picking up pollen/nectar; They fly out empty and pickup on way home saves energy

Save the bees

If you decide to have it removed, there are beekeepers that will relocate the hive instead of killing it.

Thank you so much for this information! I’ve decided to leave the nest alone. We need these little busy bees in the wild.

Sounds like you are doing the right things already. But, reach out to a keeper to confirm.
