Pumpkins: Day 57

Krull is a masterful science fiction/fantasy adventure film from 1983 that I consider one of my most near and dear creature comforts. Part scifi, part sword and sorcery, 100% schlock, it is set on a distant alien world, in an age long since past, pitting two opposing forces of quintessential good and evil against each other in an effort to either save or destroy the galaxy as we know it. A gigantic, malevolent adversary simply named "The Beast" sets upon the unsuspecting planet of Krull, a peaceful and prospering world, in his home/vehicle named the "Black Fortress", and begins spewing forth acolytes, "Slayers", to conquer this land, and ultimately, the universe. A unlikely team made up of a petty shape-shifting sorceror Ergo, a wise sage Ynyr, a bandit thief Kegan played by an early silver screen performance from Liam Neeson, a brigand Rhun played by another early silver screen performance by Robbi Coltrane, a prophetic cyclops Rell, and a newly crowned King named Colwyn must travel to save his bride, the Princess Lyssa, who was captured by The Beast. In order to do so, they must go on a quest to find the ancient and magical weapon known as "The Glaive", a 5-pointed golden shuriken with retractable blades, sentient boomerang abilities, and a personality to match. Needless to say, (42 year old spoiler alert) they definitely found it.

This film features immensely powerful primordial space-born entities with a will that would make Sauron and Palpatine blush, insanely overclocked and potent weapons/artifacts with innately curious and amazing magical properties, fantastical alien creatures with unnatural abilities, space telekinesis, giant spider ladies, Fire Mares, and fight scenes that rival anything Conan and Star Wars were up to at the time. Drool. In an alternate universe, Disney+ has the Krull Extended Universe, because this was wayyy better than any SW movie that came before it. It's not even on the same level. Fight me.
