I had a Golden Doodle - Beau - and he was the smartest dog I ever had in 50 years of having dogs - head and shoulders above other breeds. Now I have another one - Moby - and he is…ermmm..pretty and has a great personality . All of them are clowns at heart though.
Sounds like you got lucky with Beau and he was the first alpha release after extensive beta testing. The rest of them are derivative of the marketing and accounting teams' changes and decision making.
Why is that? Is he chewing on his foot? My Beau had the issue when his sleep/ rest times were out of whack and he had too many grain based snacks. I switched to all grain free and it helped a great deal.
All too often with goldens and with doodles it’s the grain. (As you see I have both) Find out by elimination. Grain free food and only meat snacks did it for my boys.
