A doughnut to remember

As a kid I was diagnosed with severe milk allergy. I believe there was a test where a drop of milk on my chest was enough to cause breathing problems. Like all kids, I too did put anything I found into my mouth and was rushed to a hospital a few times. I don't know if epipens weren't a thing around here back then, but I can't come up with any other reason for never having one on hand at home.

To this day I have done my best to avoid milk in all its forms, including cheese, ice cream, butter etc. It has become easier as veganism has been on the rise and therefore big corporations have come up with dairy free imitations of these things, but it's still been rather annoying. Mostly because all those desserts I was missing.

About a month ago I decided to get tested again, and my results were showing that I should not be allergic to milk, but it wasn't definitive. Today (technically yesterday here, about 10 hours ago) I decided to eat a doughnut I knew wasn't dairy free, and I'm still here breathing.

I'm not sure how/if this will change my life, but I'm going to find out.

I actually had to look up how to make one. It feels very weird. I know it's should be ok for me, but I'm still scared to try one.

Go all in. Take a milk bath.

Unfortunately I don't have a bathtub nor am I going to do the plumbing for a milk shower (also it sounds [bleep]y)

Most people develop lactose intolerance because they stop drinking milk after leaving home. But it’s really your body stop producing the

The enzyme that you need to break down milk. I have found if I drink a cup a day within a week I can start drinking it without problems.

Of course that first week of stomach pains and farts that could kill isn’t fun. And if you stop. It’s comes back to being intolerant again

That's really good to know, thanks. The doughnut was lactose free so that did not come up.

Go to your nearest BBQ place and get the biggest bowl of (insert meat(s)) mac&cheese allowable. You are welcome

apparently OP also has problems with wheat and other grains, so pasta might be a big step in the wrong direction.

Used to. That went over before I was in school. Thanks for caring though.

I don't think Mac & cheese is a thing here. I've never seen it in person. And frankly the idea of it is rather gross. Sorry.

Cheese time!

Any hints for a good beginner cheese? Something that's actually worth eating, but not too overwhelming?

All of them.

I’d go straight for pizza myself!

6 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I've actually eaten pizza a few times. Vegan cheese is a thing. Most of it is supposedly rather bland, but AFAIK it's ok for some pizzas.

Oh god yes. This is probably the number one thing for which I've envious of other people. They look and smell so good!

Any other things you're sensitive to? My sister is gluten intolerant and has to avoid dairy, because an enzyme in dairy is similar.

6 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I used to be allergic to pretty much everything. According to the latest test I should only avoid fish and some nuts (hazel being the worst)

non-celiac gluten intolerance is a bullshit diagnosis. She most likely has an allergy to a specific grain. Ones that dairy animals ingest.
