This is why I take my SSRI. I was too 'manly' to admit 'defeat,' and the depression/anxiety lead to burnout and a neurological disorder.
I hope more men out there realize that it's fucking normal to be depressed, but it's not healthy to "mind over matter" the situation.

Talk about some mental gymnastics.

If all of that is true, why does this world not allow us to feel it then? We're told to "man up" or "just get thorough it".
SydneySleeper
That's because of toxic masculinity. There's a reason a lot of people are trying to get rid of it
RunawaySpoons
Because this world is set up to grind people down, to make them feel worthless and spend money on things/ideas* to try to fill the void.
*ideas as in, self-help gurus, the whole self-care and 'wellness' industries. Whole professions devoted to trying to help people, whether >
they will actually help or not, people have to pay to learn and train, and other people in turn have to pay them to access the help.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
Because having emotions is "feminine", which is equated with weakness in our society. Too many people think this way. That's why they /1
don't allow men to be "weak" like women. It's the basis of toxic masculinity. /2

Simple solution. Change all of the "You are" to "I am" and read that shit out loud. Over and Over

I know, immediate thought was "No we're not". I know damn well we are all considered disposable and accept it.
Emotionally, yes. Men are expected to be stoic and self-determined, but sadly that's also why we're unfairly judged as 'more competent.'
Which is why any view of masculinity that leads to this mentality is toxic. We're not as strong, competent or healthy as society assumes.
Men and women will be better off not placing men on a pedestal, or devaluing women. We're all just bags of meat and sometimes we sad.
Paintedbluelady
Yes humanity first, not gender roles! We will all be so much happier and human if we lived true to ourselves and nuances of our beings.
jethroismaxbaer5772
thorinc
I know it, too, but I don't accept it. Every now and then I'll say things like, "People should be loved for who they are, not what they 1/
do or how they look." 2/2
You gotta start by applying that line of thinking to yourself. Take time off for yourself, talk to your dr, find time to see a therapist.
Because that kind of depression for too long will hurt you, like physically. It's ok to not be ok, and to ask for help. There are options.

Its good that you look forward to it. It means you haven’t stopped caring, which is what depression does to you
I crossed that bridge long ago. Just tired of fighting it with clenched teeth and a bad attitude.
Yeah understandable. I feel like sometimes its to accept that it is what it is. Get out of bed and go for walks just because someday/

There wasn’t one. I’m still not 100% there, it takes active effort most of the time. It’s a road that may not have an end but therapy helps.
