I read Asterix as a child and it remains one of my favorites to this day. Asterix is a Gaulish warrior who goes on adventures to different countries with his best friend, Obelix, a menhir delivery man. They are also usually accompanied by Obelix's little dog, Dogmatix. Asterix gets his strength from a magic potion brewed by the Druid Getafix, but Obelix is already strong and not allowed to have any magic potion because he fell into the cauldron as a baby (or as a child in some versions of the story). Other notable members of their village include Chief Vitalstatistix, Fulliautomatix the blacksmith, Unhygienix the fishmonger, and Cacofonix the bard. Together they love to fight Romans, fight each other, and eat lots of wild boar.
Asterix was originally written and illustrated by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo in 1961, until they passed away, and the work was taken over by Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad. To date there are 39 comic book volumes, 15 animated or live-action movies, a few games, and a theme park.

It was only a few years ago that I learnt all the characters have different names in different languages and they're all jokes in that language. So if you try and talk about it to a different nationality person, they won't know who you're talking about

Except for Astérix and Obélix themselves. And Idéfix seems to keep his original name quite often too – with the English version (Dogmatix) being one of the few exceptions.

Interestingly, since cacophony is a Greek word, Cacophonix is the same in the Greek version, because the pun already works!

That's Adrenalin from "Asterix and the Chieftain's Daughter." I'm not really that familiar with the series after Ferri and Conrad took over, but from what I gather, she's Chief Vercingetorix's fictitious daughter created for the comic book.
