The film behind the curve has taught me one very specific thing, these people have serious mental health issues that are not being addressed, and they have found community in the worst of places and now it's a cult mentality. Right at the end, when their flashlight trick worked and proved the earth was round, the people denied the results, saying they were wrong so as not to be shunned. They only seek to prove that their theories are right and not to accept their reality is false. They need help

They don't deny the 24 hour Sun during the Northern Hemisphere summer. That works with their typical flat earth model. But in the Southern Hemisphere they can't explain it. That was the point of going to Antarctica.

To be clear, Campanella didn't spend any of his own money, this was all crowdfunded by William Duffy who's a multimillionaire out of CO. So it's not like the flatearthers lost out on anything, all it did was gain them notoriety.

Presumably, he was on a plane a plane at some point during his trip and therefore could literally have seen the curve of the earth at cruising altitude... maybe he didn't have a window seat.

I can never remember the name but I'm pretty sure a guy in ancient egypt measured the shadows of pillars and got to within 3% of the accurate circumference of the globe? Plus I mean anybody who has been near the ocean and sees boats approach, the tops of the boats are visible first. If earth was flat the entire boat would just "appear" when in visual range.

Haven't spoken to one in person, but seen plenty of their bs on reddit and other parts of the Internet. Willfully ignorant and often refuse anything that would prove then wrong.

I was doing work at a customer-service center (working on the route/switch infrastructure); and a bunch of them were talking about how the moon landing was faked... I presumed, wrongly, that they were just trolling me, these dorks actually believed it... I realized they were evidence of a failed state.

Ouch, that's rough. Flat earth types seem like the vegans of conspiracy theory people. They will tell you right away they are. I've dealt with conspiracy types, even a former coworker who thought the moon landings were fake. While they would bring it up at some point, it was rarely the first thing you learned about them. Except for the flerfs.
