We've seen crows do this sort of thing. I've witnessed the heated rivalry of crows and squirrels and I'm wondering if there's a behavioral link that evolved with the interaction or if it's just a quirky thing some animals do.
I want to believe this is real, but the glut of AI "doorbell camera" videos has taught me anything too good to be true involving an animal probably isn't true.
We've always had spambots and downvote bots, as far back as I can remember, but as far as bots that make posts/comments that aren't malicious: probably either @ThisTimeLastYear or @UnitConversionBot off the top of my head.

Well, not really. Should have been doing that for a month, and in appropriately scaled quantities. ...*sigh* Yes, I know where the door is.
khaoselement
All mine did was bitch when I was late.

drcookieninja
A heated rivalry you say... Were they... Canadian crows? Maybe they liked sticks a bit too much?
VictusVonGuyver
Seems to be a more widespread thing in the animal kingdom. It's weird as it comes across from unexpected places. So far what I'm aware of:
Crows, cats, dogs, Dolphins, orcas, and now apparently squirrels.
HouseOfEvil
And it's not just an acorn or anything. It's a straight-up cookie!
ToolmanTR
Squirrels suck so much. If you EVER stop feeding them they will piss, shit, and chew on EVERYTHING to show their displeasure
ardtay
It just put the cookie somewhere it thought was safe so other squirrels wouldn't get to it.

"Hey -- who stole my lunch from the open-air refrigerator?!?" -- squirrel

Wow, first rate massage.

Something, something burying those nuts.... I'm not a comedian and it's late.
4Astaroth
Great he found that nut again. The dog doesn't have to become a tree.
BrontTheGoodBoy
You're 1/3 of the way there to a mythological forest beast, I think
4Astaroth
Oh that would be cool. Maybe the next nut will do it.
WellThatsOriginal
I hour laterrrrrr. Who the fuck ate my damn cookie! Squirrel probably.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
Yeah, they hide stuff around our house all the time, it's not a "gift", it's to come back to later.
choppedliveraldente
Craplousy hiding spot. Right where the giants enter the mountain.
InkyBlinkyPinkyAndClyde
I don't think they claim to be geniuses. :)
choppedliveraldente
That's good. We all make obvious mistakes sometimes.
madmax17
Terrible hiding spot.
choppedliveraldente
Might as well hide it in their face
Aranon1183
Well, how do a lot of trees get planted? Squirrels forgetting where they hide the seeds!
WellThatsOriginal
I remember hearing some astronomical amount of trees that grow because of squirrels hiding their food
YourLogicHasDerailed
Might not actually eat it, but I would have it framed.

begone, bot
originalhuman
What the fuck keeps creating the bots that make that comment?!
thedudeman519
Not sure how advanced scripting is at this point but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a mostly automated process
YourLogicHasDerailed
I'm a bot that only exists to post dumb jokes on Imgur? That sucks.
originalhuman
Not you!!! hahah. There was a bot that replied “This is bad” to your message. New ones keep popping up to do the same thing
YourLogicHasDerailed
phew!
Fanner50
What’s the oldest bot you know of on here?

Oh wait. What was the one that used to automatically call out reposts and comment with a link to the original?
