It was pretty nice. It'll get better as I fine tune how I hang it. All in all, I can't complain though. It's made from tablecloths afterall.

This is what is known as a "gathered end" hammock, you're thinking of what is called a "bridge" hammock.

If you used sections of chain, you could hook it at ANY point along the length to adjust your height...weight may come into play though

That white rope is hollow and splice backwards into itself so that it slides through. The entire thing is adjustable at both ends (1)

Don't feel too bad. I just grabbed the 2 nearest clean socks that looked like they might match. I was barefoot most of the day.
