A greeting card for my fellow ADHD sufferers

Wise words

Wiser words. I knew I had forgotten something.

From "The Goops" by Gelett Burgess, 1900. This has been me since the day I was born. Nobody understood ADHD in the 1950's, we were just "lazy," or "self-centered," or "daydreaming," or "not living up to our potential."

Fuck that noise.

Right now. This very minute. I'm supposed to be preparing a lesson. Instead, I'm shitposting on Imgur.

I know I had a point with this post, but I can't remember what it was.

My wife loves me but she will never understand this.

I empathize deeply, but I will never be able to experience this, despite how keenly I would like to. I'm 75, and getting a diagnosis where I live would take around 3 years. I envy people who can get help, but I have done my best all my life to cope... and in some cases, take advantage of the situation.

Well, it's 6 AM now, I guess productivity is over for the day.

Stay strong, my brothers and sisters.

Fuck Putin, and Fuck Trump.

#7 I understand what you wrote about regret of missing out on that experience. I want to offer a different perspective:
Yes. At first it can feel like that, depending on how much and how bad that chaos in your head is. Clearly it does work for many people well enough longterm. I too have heard people describe it as lifechanging.
Personally however I emphasize more with those that describe it as limiting. It was an eye-opener at first, no question. I like having the medication available >

to use on certain days. But overall I feel the constraints more than the benefit. The benefit would be if my head would actually be quiet, but instead it's just less and can see my trauma responses more clearly. It doesn't help me maintain a regular workday - instead it limits me tremendously when learning, practicing music, and such.

In those situations the chaos in my head seems to correlate and make all kinds of fascinating connections. On medication it's the highway, straightforward and >

good for household tasks or learning facts. But when that chaos would normally be the equivalent of a dozen bee swarms, or a 10 lanes going in different directions. It now shrinks down to 3 lanes in one direction.

So it can be useful, but it feels like crippling myself just to try and emulate a life that I don't want to life in the first place.

Thank you for the interesting counterpoint.
