Any suggestions?

I have not played on a pc since I was a kid. Always used consoles. Just simply for their cheapness and ease of use. But my brother has been trying to get me into building a small gaming computer. He's very much against amd and radeon. Only buy Intel and nvidia. I know nothing about it. So I'm putting it out to you guys and girls. I only play shooters. Not looking at spending more than 1000$ Canadian. So roughly 100$ American haha.

Was looking at something like this to start. I'll probably go small ssd as main drive.

Cpu, AMD FX-8320 or 8350 if I can afford it.
Mobo, Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Socket AM3+
Gpu, Gigabyte GeForce GTX 960 4GB

Any suggestions? Am I better off getting an Intel i5?

Good selection.

Intel is really strong right now and has been for a while. AMD is good for some price points. BTW: Tomshardware is a great site for this.

So I'm no expert, but I say don't hesitate to go ham on RAM. It's cheap and can make a big difference.

Prob stick with 16gb. 2x8 and upgrade if needed. The ssd shoot help out a lot.

If you want I can send you my most recent build parts list, it came out to 1200$ but there is a lot of wiggle room for changes to the price

I'll get after the big stuff. It's going to be hooked up to me 65" TV . Since I mostly play shooters. I'll use my Xbox one controller

Keyboard mandatory (nothing fancy) And... a mouse. Once you go mouse, you leave the pad for arcade games ;)

Hells ya. Already have a steam account. My boys play portal 1 and 2 on my mac mini. I use that for all my streaming needs.
