Journey into a Titan I Missle Silo

Titan I ICBMs were an important weapon in the United States' arsenal during the Cold War. These missiles could be delivered to certain targets at a moment notice and travel quite far.

Masks had to be worn to shield against asbestos.

The main entrance to the facility. Graffiti covers much of the walls.

Tunnel leading into the facility.

Main chamber that was entered from the tunnel.

Many of the walkways were dilapidated for the most part. Many were missing segments of grates.

Descending further into the silo. The entire facility was pitch dark.

Some machines, likely to absorb shock to protect the facility.

This dark figure was found in some areas of the silo. Creepy.

Same figure, but different from the others in that its eyes glowed. It was painted with fluorescent paint.

More creepy graffiti. This is deep in the facility.

Much of the silo was flooded. One misstep and you could find yourself deep in contaminated waters.

A raft found in the facility. Seems someone was trying to travel through the water.

Not much to be said...

Deeper into the silo, a bunker was found. There was a hallway that once held many vault like doors that one had to pass through to gain entry.

One of the vault doors.

Another hallway.

Another vault door hallway.

This part of the facility was in worse condition than the earlier areas.

A stench filled the air that made it hard to breathe.

Spooky.

Some areas of the bunker were inaccessible due to flooding.

Some rubble blocking a doorway.

The largest room in the entire bunker area of the facility.

A large machine. Purpose unknown.

Seems a man or woman forgot their gloves.

Their shoes, too.

A mysterious open hatch. There was nothing but an abyss below.

Some cavern formation.

There was an exit to be found out of the facility.

The exit.

These are the silo doors that were never opened, thankfully. Should a missile have been fired, these doors would be the last clearance point that missile would have needed to gain entry to the skies.

No herbs and/or typewriters anywhere? Must be hard mode. OP is not casual.

Yes, it would be easier to a wrap around the facility, of we could watch you go through with go pros or something

Bit late on this, but that vault door is from a Soviet silo, and the corridor looks it too. "ZAKR." is an abbreviation for "CLOSED".

Did you see the dick dressed as a pickle with glowing eyes on the walls? It lightened my mood a bit in there. Thanks for the pictures OP!

Is this silo in Colorado about an hourish east of Denver? Some friends and I would love to see it but don't know where the entrance is

I think there is a dead body in that open hatch that led to an abyss.

Look like a walk in the park in comparison of the post about Paris Catacomb.

The Test Site, HQ, or somewhere else I have not found yet.

I spent a lot of time at The Test Site, I made a save point and re-did that mission over and over for different results.

Keep that RadAway handy.

Those masks aren't going to do a damn thing against asbestos...

11 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

You'd need a positive pressure BA set at the very minimum.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was thinking the same. Not to mention contaminating your clothing. If you can smell through a mask it definitely isn't good enough!

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This was my immediate thought.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not to mention proper mask would filter that "hard to breath stench" as well. Who knows what that was from, with contaminated water around..

Those shitty dust masks remind me of our class working on making mock-ups from PU-foam. That was actually deemed health risk in inhaled.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Banned from use, we used it because school still had it (no one thought about throwing it away..?) But hey, free dust masks, yay?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some of the class used them, and even then just in the 'fuck it, I can't adjust it right' way, which makes it totally pointless to use.

This work in plastics-classroom with dust and fumes from molten/burnt plastic all around. I just bought myself a proper halfmask..
