Sorry for missing yesterday's post. It's been kind of a shit show around here. Getting this one out extra early so it isn't missed again. We finally got our next treatment notice, so we're scrambling to find gas money so we can vacate the cats for the day. The upside of this is that we might finally be able to bring our guinea pigs home and that would go a long way to relieving my stress. I miss my babies. ; . ;

Me too. Apparently last night Peanutbutter bit the friend they're staying with. That's highly unusual for her. She's never bitten anyone in her life. I hope they get to come home very soon, as I worry that they're starting to suffer their own stress from being out of their home for so long

You can tell how old these are by their use of 'gypsy'. It's actually a racial slur for the Romani people.

According to the artist's comments on the original, this is what her own mother would say about her and her sisters so I don't think she meant for it to be mean, even if it is in bad taste.

A lot of people in the US were fairly ignorant of the Romani being an extant ethnic group, and not just something from folktales or just a name for a kind of traveling performer. I remember kids in school being surprised when they found out they were one of the groups that were targeted and killed in the Holocaust.

Not that it makes it any better, just to explain the "joke": Another stereotype is that they steal children from non-romani families, so I guess the "we stole her from them" is supposed to mean "we kidnapped a child from them that they had kidnapped from other people, so it's okay that we kidnapped her".

I don't think the joke is supposed to be that deep. It's not in good taste at all, but I don't think it's meant to imply she looks down on any group of people. At least, that's just my take on it.

I meant intentionally. It's very possible she didn't mean to make it sound like that. there's a difference between "I hate this group, therefore, I'll tell a mean joke about them" and "I've heard jokes like this before and everyone laughed so I guess it's ok." I'd like to believe that, if she were corrected, she'd stop. I tried to look into more context or comments on her FB and site to see if it was brought up but couldn't find any.

I'm wondering if you could maybe upscale the images. While it's possible to read them, they are kinda small by today's resolution standards.

I tap to open the image (on mobile) and turn my phone so ilI am looking at horizontally and I can zoom in as needed. If you are talking about a desktop or laptop, I got nothin'.

These are from 2012. There's not much I can do to improve the size without degrading the quality. As the series progresses it will get better, but we're starting from the beginning which was thirteen years ago

Bandwidth was an issue at one point. For one site I worked on in the 90s, I made a 78kb gif file, and was worried about that size.

Because all of our resolutions were much much smaller. it wasn't all that long ago that 1080p was considered the top tier... Monitors have gotten way better in the last ten years.

Young eyes, not having something better to compare it to at the time, things being built for that resolution so it looked more natural.
For example, there were some video games that took advantage of the way CRTs worked to make themselves look better. And a side effect of that means that if you try to play them on modern displays, they can look kind of weird or bad.
