I made this comment earlier today just hoping to share the info.

Stinkin' ads. But everyone gotta earn a living right? Anyway, there were a ton of comments, opinions, information and diluted unresearched information given in response. Too much to properly address in comments. This post is to address those things. Keep in mind my only interest is saving innocent life.
First off, this response:

First, I truly appreciate that @Felderburg was checking it out. Everyone should, because people spew crap all the time and it seems like most people blindly follow. Now, first ISSUE seems to me to be ethical or concerned with safety. Cool. And good. Read this:

It's also suggested the animal might escape or attack the rescuer. All extremely good points, and very possible. And this statement is extremely important as well:

I'll try and address this with bullet points because I'm autistic and don't get the way most people are. Not a joke.
* control yourself and your emotions. Truly observe the animal. If it's flipping out then it's not dying, yet. If it's a child...well, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to leave a child unattended. Call emergency services if you are incapable of making the decision yourself.
* it's super cheap and easy to be prepared to break a car window without hurting anyone, using an automatic center punch https://youtu.be/QkNG5K91js0 (I carry one in my car cause I'd hate to see someone burn to death in a car on fire). It's surprisingly hard to break car windows otherwise.
* if you think the animal has the ability to injure you, either your judgement of an "emergency" is poor, or they are not in dire straights yet. Basically the same goes if you think the animal may escape. And I suppose a lot of people have poor judgement. Stay, and wait, after calling emergency services.
* I, personally, would rather suffer a couple bites by an animal in the off chance that happens, than see it die. Also I would keep it from escaping, cause I'm able to. But that's just me. Different people have different abilities.
Next, legality, which somewhat leads into morality:

This is a personal choice we each must make. Here is my thought process.
Humans, don't be stupid. Animals, don't be stupid, but have an explanation.
When you take custody of an animal you are taking responsibility for its creation. We create it, we must care for it. If you're not willing to love an animal as you love yourself, then don't own one.
If you have good judgement and an animal is about to die, decide what is more important to you. A misdemeanor charge or the life of an innocent creature you could have saved? Are your employer, loved ones, or you really going to be upset that you got a ticket for saving an animal life? If you're worried about jail time you're out of touch with reality.
Litigation was also mentioned. You worried about getting sued? For what? Repair costs? What judge would award for mental damages to a person who was proven to have placed a child or pet in danger through wanton ignorance?

If you're really worried about it, and YOU HAVE GOOD JUDGEMENT, smash the window and run, leaving the life in the care of someone else on scene
