Most SSNs have been exposed in breaches in the last ten years anyway. Other information is and should be clearly confidential - especially medical records

They were phasing that out to dod id numbers when I was in. 2012-2017 my dog tags had my social but ones that came after me had their dod id number

They are much better now, but still not 100% transitioned to DoD ID number for all records. Plus a lot of older docs early in the records probably have SS on them if you joined before that transition started.
