Ive heard magats that call themselves catholic say shit like "we dont agree with this pope" so i tell them thats heretical and used to be an almost certain death sentence and that they chose the religion where the pope is the voice of God on earth. they dont get to disagree and stay Catholic, there are plenty of Christian churchesthey could join and not be at odds with their own beliefs.

The Pope doesn't have to be strong on crime, or have good foreign policy. He's a religious leader, not the leader of a country. The Pope's attitude is basically "people shouldn't do bad things", a concept Trump clearly disagrees with.

My Catholic FIL still thinks Republicans think of Catholics as Christians. IDK about anyone else but I remember being taught that Martin Luther translated the bible against the wishes of the Catholic church and the devil appeared to stop him from translating and he threw an inkwell at the devil and missed. So the Catholics and the Devil were on the same side in the matter. I was taught that in friggen Sunday School.

Made public that there where no references to payment for sin's, and thus slain the devil ("thou shalt not covet") with ink? My guess is the Catholic and Protestant are on the same page about the devil. But the sale of indulgence at that time was the difference. But who am I?

Anti-Catholicism used to be a huge thing in the US.
Some of it was based on the same religious wars that were going on in Europe. But also a lot of it was based on regular nativism/xenophobia: The established British colonists didn't like the Catholic immigrants coming from Ireland, Poland, etc.
John F. Kennedy was the first Catholic US president and that was a big deal even in 1960. A common anti-Kennedy line was that as a Catholic he would be more loyal to the Pope then to the US.

Catholics in general aren’t as glued to their beliefs as some other Christian faiths, but they do tend to be one-issue voters. It has less to do with them supporting Trump specifically than them being hard line anti-abortion voters. Evangelicals, on the other hand, are a bunch of fucking morons who worship Trump and take the entire Bible literally. Which is ironic, because they basically get the entire message wrong. I know plenty of both. Catholics are conservative. Evangelicals are MAGA.

The church canon is very explicit in accepting the Big Bang and evolution theories, mainly because they had a very active contribution on them. A catholic priest was the one to formulize the mechanics of big bang and another discovered the genetic laws of inheritance.
