Trump has created a cult in the republican party, and now he IS the party. This means America is in for a rough ride. He will continue to try to seize power until he dies. Either he loses (and it's "stolen" and he keeps undermining the dems and trying to tweak elections), or he wins and he becomes a dictator. He pretty much has to die for the cycle to stop...

And over 50 years before fascism existed! But the actual reason the quote is messed up is that it was actually 1935 (and also a loose summary rather than a direct quote, apparently).

#3 Either Sinclair Lewis managed to say that fifty years before he was born, or the date on that meme should be 1935.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I looked it up. He didn't even say it. And Fascism became a term in 1919 - coined by Mussolini.

And that's just immigration, he's got big plans for weaponizing the justice dept against his political rivals too.

#3 How can this be true? I thought Mussolini created fascism in, like, the 1920s? Is maybe the date wrong?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's most likely meant to be 1935 but there's also no evidence he actually said it. Though he could have since he was vocal about the dangers of fascism.

... almost in order, but Hitler actually admired and learned from "already fascist" Mussolini. But then, of course, Hitler would outshine Benito and really run with it.

It’s too bad stupid people don’t read. All of these articles of impending doom are being missed by the people who need it most.

Whatever the Germans should've done while they had the chance to prevent Hitler from taking power is what you Americans should be doing now. It's not just about your own country. It's about consequences for the whole world because of the dark history the American People are permitting to have repeated.

I know he's never going to prison, that's why I wish he'd just drop dead

My sister sent me a letter and told me that my "kind" (i.e., Trump-haters) are going to be "phased out" if he's elected in 2024 and she will be glad to see me go. MAGA is not a joke; they are very, VERY serious about their threats.

I get ears full of non-maga GOP and they are far more credible and chilling. We are nearing late stages of fascism development formula that worked in countries like Germany, Spain, and recently the Philippines, but it is beyond overkill compared to what worked there. And the 2025 plan isn't the end goal. We're past voting, past encouraging others to vote, past donating and volunteering for campaigns. Protests and violent revolutions have no chance. Each of you must seriously consider running /

even local school boards, because that's what they have been doing for the last several years, largely unopposed. If you can't but you know anyone you feel you could support who has never considered running... plant the seed.

Just to let you know, Trump is currently leading polling in every swing state ... Biden is quickly losing support from the minorities that won him 2020.

FWIW, in that same poll they asked the same people how they'd vote if Trump is convicted in any of his cases and every state then went to Biden.

Remember, if you rearrange "Republican National Convention" you can spell "Con Vulnerable Nation Into Panic."

It's not a fourth reich, it's a second confederacy.

2 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

To be fair, the Reich was largely inspired by the Confederacy.

No, the German race-laws were largely inspired by Jim Crow and similar race laws, which were all good ole USA.

Definitely a fair correction.

American Kristallnacht is for everybody who opposes Der Trumpster.

While it is acceptable to compare the MAGA movement with nazism, most Jews tend to prefer for specific antisemitic incidents not to be appropriated unless and until there are direct parallels.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

If anything, American Kristallnacht was one of the anti-black race riot massacres of the early 20th century.

If you vote for trump, vote third party or don’t at all, you’re voting for this. There’s no denying or excusing it anymore.

Huh?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 14

What’s hard to understand about that?

We have an Electoral College. This election is going to be decided by 100 intellectually challenged swing voters in Ohio.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I know

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There's a movement afoot to use the Electoral College to defeat the Electoral College. One second while I locate a reference.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is the problem with the current way the GQP works. Each person running for election needs to be crazier and more hardline than the last. Even their own previous election because if they're not it'll be spun that they've gone "woke" and the votes might go to someone else. The foot isn't coming off the crazy peddle for a long time i'm afraid and it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Almost like some aduls need to enter the room, expel the crazies and take their party back or just start a new party with sanity.

2 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Or, the GOP needs to slowly die and be replaced.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

No. They need to die off, and we need to be standing directly in the way of any piece of shit looking to replace them. They need to go extinct, not keep propagating.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Democracy works best when you have differing parties making the decisions. I'd be happy with a D/R 70%/30% split in power, which frankly, is what the GOP share of seats in congress and the senate really should be. If they aren't in complete control of anything, they can still have a voice without destroying the country.

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

On a base level, you're on the right track. However, neither side can consist of terrorists or traitors, if the system's supposed to work. If there is ONE thing that can not be up for debate, it's whether or not to remain a democracy, or whether or not those who exist to destroy it, should have any agency within it. They shouldn't.
