I've talked to some people who seem to think Nintendo has been making consoles since the start of gaming. Well thats not the case. As we can see here Nintendo came in during the 3rd gen console era. During the 8bit days. Of course some people don't want to listen and would rather argue than do a simple Google search.....................Jason.

My grandfather was that man, and my dad went on calls with him. He once managed to fix a color TV after the guy already got a replacement on warranty. And that’s how my family got the second ever color TV in town.
Another old story was about finding tape over all the sockets during a call. The mom later explained it was to keep the electricity from flowing out on the floor when they weren’t using it. Grandad supposedly didn’t laugh till he got out to the truck, then kindly explained a little.

Depends on what one considers "childhood". Got a lot of early memories on gen 3-4 but most of my actual "gaming" was on generations 6-7.

Same, I had/still have a Odyssey 2 but NES was really the core of my development years. Genesis during my early teens and bought myself a n64 for 16th b-day in 2000.

From the time of the videogame crash to around the mid 90's home computers played a much bigger role here in Europe, than consoles. I knew about the Famicom, or NES, like it was called here, but mainly from the magazines. I knew no one, who owned one.

I would say Gen IV, but we were pushed back by poverty. We didn't get a gamecube till the WII U came out, and never owned a N64. Come to think of it, we used a VHS till Blu Ray came out, so a lot of things were like that.

Not poverty, but dad was a public HS teacher. I feel ya. My sister and I were playing an Atari from yard sale while others had N64. We basically started coercing our parents to pay us a quarter at a time for any job we could (best allowance we managed), and surprised the shit out of them 2 years later with a full jar, demanding to go buy a PS1 and Spyro the Dragon. (Don’t think they believed we were capable of long game patience). Anyway we finally got a memory card about 4 months later.

I played my first computer game on an HP68 calculator in the early 1970s. Later, on a Radio Shack Model 1 back in 1977. I typed it into the computer from a copy of Byte magazine. I then wrote a Star Trek game in 78 on the High school time-share system.

First game console I ever saw was the Magnavox Odyssey in '72 or '73 I don't know if our generation was pre-console, but our generation was the first one to see a console. First used a networked computer in '78 which included a shared notes system and a shared electronic mail. First personal electronic mail address in 1982.

I set up my first network back in the late 70s. It was a serial based network using some RS Model 1s (mine and a buddy's). My first "professional" network was a Token Ring in the 80s.
