note that n95 are ffp2. ffp3 are much better, but hard to breathe, and ffp1 don't help much

It’s ever so slightly possible but not a whole lot. The virus resides in the lungs not in the mouth. Nose hairs may capture a tiny amount.

Basically pick the right material and a tight fitting pattern and it will give you protection from infection and protect others from you.
You can use medical tape on the edges to make it more effective.
Isn’t possible. Also for them to be effective at all you must wash them after every use and you cannot touch the fronts of them at all. 2/
Many studies have shown diy cloth masks will help prevent infection spread and that even a simple tshirt blocks 76% of infectious mater.
Simple, the cs go player?
Note that 76% is much higher than 0% and viral load matters in terms of getting infected.

Droplet spread.

Breathing. You simply exhale, and out comes virus.
It spreads just breathing normally which is why everyone needs to wear masks.

Spent too much time with coworkers in work trucks haha. And any respirator isn't effective without proper fit.
PballQhead
Most gas/vapor carts are also P100, I think they just pack the neutralizing chemicals into filter material packs
isetprettygirlsonfire
No, there are combo masks, but not all are P100. Usually the filter is attached outside. See here, pink part on the combos are the filter.

PballQhead
Right, I have a 3M 6300 that I scored some plain P100s for. Not all combo carts are P100, no, but it seems like more are than aren't.
isetprettygirlsonfire
I meant not all carts are combos. Depends on what you buy. Making assumptions can be deadly.

homemade masks are shown to reduce your chance my 50% https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/today-explained/id1346207297?i=1000470455696

tiikuri
That would depend on the podcast.
BurnieCinders
Good thing we've got imgur to go by then.
ongabonga
note that n95 are ffp2. ffp3 are much better, but hard to breathe, and ffp1 don't help much
ongabonga
also, if you only have n95 with vent slap a surgical on to protect others a bit more by keeping the exhale closer to you
valvarsson
Fpp1 does filter large particles like bees so if you are in a beeie area it’s a good choice.
ongabonga
it'd bee both beeautiful and terrifying to have bees stuck all over your mask
NachomanDandyCabbage
Probably a stupid question, can breathing through your nose (help) keep you from infecting others?
BeatsBearsBattlestarGallactica
Breathing in/out through your nose is def a first line of natural defense (thanks mucus and hairs!) But similar to calluses protecting your>
BeatsBearsBattlestarGallactica
feet from getting cut by sharp objects there's a reason we invented masks.
BeatsBearsBattlestarGallactica
and shoes.

Sorry I metaphored and forgot to get out of it. Either way: Human body good at things. Human brain creates tools to be better at things.
nosaucesbutapplesauces
I breath through my nose in the grocery store even though it probably doesnt help. I find myself holding my breath if someone gets close too
IWishIHadASoul
No
SlackerTactical
Might be worse. We connect nasopharyngeal swabs because that's where the highest concentration of virus is
Silverforte
Unless you're sick or have a condition, why would you not already breathe through your nose?
PatriotTD365
No
Arcian
It's not a stupid question if you learn something from the answer.
PatriotTD365
No.
BizzarJuggalo
No, but I've heard that wearing a condom over your head can offer the best protection.
AllTheGoodOnesWereGone
Chances are good that none of the people answering you have any idea what they’re talking about here.
catdrchris
If you stay at home or 12 feet from everyone all the time, yes.
stupidusernamething
Yes it does, and it helps keep you from getting infected. Nose hairs are a biological filter.
BlondJani
Not a stupid question at all. Good for you to ask, but no, that won’t help. Be well!
blzrdphoto
It’s ever so slightly possible but not a whole lot. The virus resides in the lungs not in the mouth. Nose hairs may capture a tiny amount.
iliketotellabsurdconspiracies
I think there could be a small reduction in spit that people do not detect leaving their mouth. But people are inconsistent
LurkerOfDarkness
Indeed, a small reduction, but as there appears to be a link between how much you were exposed to and the severity, it might let a few 1/2
LurkerOfDarkness
People get through it easier. So a tiny but non-zero effect. 2/2
iliketotellabsurdconspiracies
As I said to the Mrs, I’ll take my tiny win
mangogangsta
Godman thats such a nice way to answer.
manbearpiglet2
Anyone know if a 3m 6001 respirator is useless?
BlondJani
Should also note that based on your user name, the nose method would be questionable ?
Gribblecillin
What if I plugged my nose with n95 filters and duck taped my mouth shut?
Froth06
Use flex tape to be sure its shut tight
TheSacret
You’ll be all safe for the rest of your life ?
6ft1DickC
Then most likely yes, since you'll probably suffocate and die
RaskasaSubwoofer
But you won't get the virus ;)
6ft1DickC
Exactly what I was saying

DarkSock
That is why I only inhale...
MintMission
If you are shedding particles when breathing, surgical or home made masks won't keep the virus in, it's too small. What these marks help 1/2
MintMission
with is preventing droplets from traveling through the air. 2/2
Pphunk77
Only if you stick wide cigarette filters in your nostrils.

Imagine if the cig industry helps save lives.

So, a Fremen stillsuit will do?
muggywaters
Yes, but will your water be contaminated upon reclamation?
pancakesplz
if you want to drink your own piss & sweat, then yes, otherwise, no.
myquietfantasy
The best place to store water is in the body.
pancakesplz
I mean ... bottles work.
ninerninny
Please note that homemade masks don’t actually offer any kind of substantial protection and should only be used when social distancing 1/
meskarune
This is false. https://smartairfil">-virus/">https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/ https://youtu.be/DZBbkn-g-vE

?
meskarune
Basically pick the right material and a tight fitting pattern and it will give you protection from infection and protect others from you.
meskarune
You can use medical tape on the edges to make it more effective.
ninerninny
Isn’t possible. Also for them to be effective at all you must wash them after every use and you cannot touch the fronts of them at all. 2/
meskarune
Many studies have shown diy cloth masks will help prevent infection spread and that even a simple tshirt blocks 76% of infectious mater.
valvarsson
Simple, the cs go player?
meskarune
Note that 76% is much higher than 0% and viral load matters in terms of getting infected.
TinyGreenMenNinjaClan
How does holding your T-shirt over your nose fair out?
OoEeOoAaAa
About as good as a homemade mask. Better than nothing.
meskarune
It actually helps a lot https://smartairfilters.com/en/blog/best-materials-make-diy-face-mask-virus/
puzzledink
Sorry to ask this but how does an asymptomatic patient spread it if he isn't coughing ..etc ..by talking or also breathing normally too?
PatriotTD365
Droplet spread.
5NoteHalf
Breathing. You simply exhale, and out comes virus.
meskarune
It spreads just breathing normally which is why everyone needs to wear masks.
puzzledink
I see, thanks. for a while I read that it only spreads through droplets so I thought only by coughing...etc but I guess it's not that simple
WisconsinHome
Newest info is saying breathing spreads it too
