Gullwing Door Myth

The myth is that gullwing doors will trap you if someone parks too close. The exact opposite is true. They are hinged in the middle of the roof, not on the widest part of the car, like traditional doors. DMC-12 gullwings require only about 10 inches to open fully.

(I parked over the line to get close to the wall for demonstration. I moved "Loren" back within the lines immediately after.)

I feel like you should have blurred out your license plate, but I really don't know why

Kanye still doesn't know.

I would rather have a De Lorean than a Corvette!

As someone who doesn't own a DeLorean... Screw you man. Screw. You. *weeps*

Myth is more fascinating than truth. Myth = DMC trafficked coke. Truth = Undercover FBI offered the idea to him, then nabbed him.

No coke was ever trafficked or changed hands. Wouldn't make sense anyways to ship coke from Columbia, to Ireland, to U.S.

"Do you have any cars with doors that go like this or like this? I didn't think so!" -Some billionaire

I've had it since July 2000. It's been a tank. Used to deliver piazza with it for a couple of those years. It was my daily back then.

15 years? that's commitment!

The whole point of gull wing doors is they take up less space so the car can be wider and more stable int he corners.

You need to install a fog machine that only shoots fog when you open the door. Oh and hover wheels.

If anyone has any legitimate questions about the DMC in particular, ask away. There is more myth than fact "known" about the "D".

Is it expensive to maintain I.E. broken parts and what have you?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Delorean.com for parts. Very reasonable. Hasn't been expensive to maintain, but I just completely re-did the brakes for $3k.

Was it slightly disappointing when you first opened the door and it didn't do the Back To the Future door 'Werrrrrrrrr'?

Oh it still makes a rad "swish" sound from the gas strut!

Any weird cleaning requirements? I think i remember them being plain stainless steel shell?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Zero requirements. Stainless is stainless. I use paint thinner or xylene for tough bug splats or tree sap.

When you gonna put a proper engine in it?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Gonna keep it stock and bring it up to 200hp N/A by undo'ing the early 80's EPA choke hold. New cam, header, cat, and exhaust.

But... but... 3.0 ltr twin turbo from an A610 is a perfect fit! I know because I have the 86 Renault GTA...

Haven't you and I talked about this before? Or is it another guy with the Alpine?

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nope, same guy. Just realised. HI! *waves enthusiastically*
