This is along the lines of what I call “missed exit logic.” A person will veer across four lanes of traffic, putting everyone’s lives in danger, but, “I was gonna miss my exit, what was I supposed to do!?” We’ve over extended ourselves in an unstable framework of scaffolding that ultimately forces our dependency on the system.

The only logical conclusion is: If a system will not enforce its own laws from the top down, those laws must either be conditional, or those laws must be enforced from the bottom upwards. Most people will choose to live with conditional laws, as that is convenient. Luigi chose to enforce from the bottom upwards.

It's worse than that. Our social system CREATED these monsters. You can arrest and even execute every single one of these people, and if you don't fix the system, not only will a new crop of monsters spring up, but there are already nests of them everywhere. The Catholic Church has not been in the news lately. You think the pedo problem there has been fixed? well, it has, sorta. There are now insurance policies churches can buy to deal with this as a "liability."

Also, i would disagree about panic. Trimp is clearly panicking about the information being exposed and actions happening elsewhere. His overnight posts are getting more and more ridiculous and his health is declining. He cant do a presser without sitting down or leaning on a wall in the jet and his hands are worse.

I think the craziest thing is that Epstein was the architect of the Q Anon conspiracy to create a smokescreen for the real stuff that was going on by making the general public distrustful of the truth if it ever got out. Huh ok fair. It was widely spread and honestly seemed within the realm of possibilities. But hey, I will take her deliberate choices to redact documents (evidence tampering and withholding evidence) and her choices not to arrest and prosecute anyone as her aiding and abetting the pedophiles in escaping justice. So she is now VERY complicit in these crimes in terms of hiding them and allowing the people responsible to remain free and in power.

While I'd love to see the people in power be punished, give me the little people. Give me the doctors, lawyers, nurses, drivers, ect. Give me THOSE people, because the people in power didn't get there alone. They are all monsters, but some of our own fed them, and they are just as, if not MORE guilty, for betraying that trust. The roots of this run deep and pulling them out means we will have to bleed. We will lose family, friends, associates, jobs, it's a price we must be willing to pay.

Addressing the OP's point about the system working as intended: That's really the issue. The biggest benefit to men under patriarchy is the ability to control and abuse women. If you read about colonialism, you'll find that the ability to rape enslaved people was the "tax free benefit" of that era, it was a huge motivator for the ground-floor level slavers who made up the backbone of that system, and it was reinforced in the owners who raped their slaves in the enslaving countries.

This has always been the case with rape. Even "normal" rapists, not rich ones, get away with it the majority of the time. No one cares enough to spend the money that would be necessary to fix this. Because it's largely just women and children. Same with trafficking and forced prostitution. Yes, of course adult men get raped and trafficked too. But not nearly at the rates of women and children. I'm sure we could stop it if we wanted to. But as a society, clearly we don't want to.

The thing that gives me the most hope is remembering the news from early in the COVID-19 lockdowns, about how quickly the air quality improved in cities without all the cars driving around.
No, the system is not self-healing, at least not in a time scale that matters to us -- but it is a system, and the input today will always affect the output tomorrow. Making good choices is important even as we strive for better choices.

I remember hearing recently that ironically Methane levels spiked during covid though, because a bunch of the dumb shit we do actually helps break down the methan in the air faster, so without al the other polution the methane hung around a lot longer.

But things can speed up the breakdown process. Apparently Hydroxyl radicals are one such thing, which are a downstream byproduct of other man made polutants in the air. We stopped making as muchof those during lockdown, and suddenly there were less of them available to react with the methane. I didn't hear that, but now that I'm looking at it... that's pretty interesting! It looks like it coincided with ideal weather conditions for wetlands producing methane, which they had no idea could play such a large role. Definitely underscores that the system is not self-healing, but also that changes have a larger impact than what's immediately obvious.
