I was always told by my grandad that it was pronounced "wor-SES-ter-shire" with the emphasis on the 2nd syllable. He was English-born and raised near there, so I kinda take it as 'pretty solid' evidence.
That said, he was a bit of an odd duck, having fought in both World Wars, so... I'm open to being corrected with proof. :D
I lived in Worcester England as a child. My family's house was officially called "The Old Rectory", and was built before the European discovery of the new world.
